average episodes this week

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Friday:
Miami Medical (S01E04):
Were they the lowest floor that had a balcony? I just thought it looked weird that they fell so far and not onto the balcony directly below them. The difference between this show and ER is that the medical jargon used by the doctors isn't used so quickly and surely... but this is good since it's more believable that they want the patient to understand what's going on... another plus to this show and its clear dedication to humanitarianism. Why did the guy who was cleaning the pool get brought in so much later than the couple who fell?? How come the wife knew that dialysis could cause her to lose her adopted child but the husband had no inkling of that? [May 21 is the first season's finale already!]

Sunday:
Minute to Win It
(Season 1, Week 7): Starts off with last week's firefighter.
Game 7: Double Trouble: hold two ping pong balls in one hand... bounce them on a table and make each land in a different glass (side-by-side). Out of all of his tries in his first attempt, only one ball ever went in. On the second go-round, he had two in one cup, one in another, but never at the same time so he dropped from $75k to $50k.
Contestant #2: Pro-Volleyball player.
Game 1: Sticky Balls: get the five marbles to stick to the tape after rolling them. He does it.
Game 2: How's it Hangin': Tie a banana by a string around your waist. Swing it to roll two oranges over into a hula hoop. This is a weird event, if you ask me. He had a hard time getting it over the rim of the hoop both times. In fact, he doesn't finish the second one in time. On the second try, he has the same problems, and in fact the first one goes in with only 10 seconds left to do the second. Nope. He tries again with his last life, but doesn't make it (but again comes close).
Contestant #3: Kindergarten teacher. She kept a scrunchy on her ankle...
Game 1: Nose Dive: using petroleum jelly on your nose, transfer 5 cotton balls from one bowl to another. This is a hard one, and the best time previously was 58 seconds. She did it in 38 seconds, so excellent!
Game 2: Face the Cookie: put a cookie on your forehead and get it into your mouth. Do it twice. 43 seconds was the old record. She gets it in 52 seconds.
Game 3: Magic Carpet Ride: turn a bathmat into a mode of transportation by scrunching and releasing. Don't touch the floor. Make it through an obstacle course in 60 seconds. It looks pretty hard, actually. The obstacles are weaving through a few poles, and she does really well at this. She finishes with 31 seconds left. This impresses me!
Game 4: Paper Dragon: Swinging your arms, unravel the streamers (500 feet in each arm). She had a great start, but was reallllly struggling toward the end. She made it though, with 8 seconds to go.
Game 5: Candy Elevator: Put the candies on two pencils and loop strings over your ears that attach to the pencils. Raise the pencils up and get the candies in your mouth. I kinda thought she'd be good at this one, being a primary teacher and all. She started off nice and slow (and put her hair up again, LoL), but her elevator became un-level when she readjusted her hands, and the candies fell off. On her second try she was afraid to move her hands too much once her arms were straightened, so she ran out of time. On her third try she was doing so well, but one of the candies fell off when she put the others into her mouth. Out!

The Simpsons (S21E19): I liked Lisa's solo this time. I also liked the couch gag, although generally I don't these long ones. Interesting wind power thing. Why was Lenny answering the phone at the electric company? Being hit with a wii controller sucks... Weird for Bart and Lisa. hahahahahahahahahaha "fan club." Why are Lisa and Bart driving?? The whole beached whale thing was boring. The swimming-in-the-stars part made it slightly better, LoL. OOOOOOMG what the hell with that blowing-up of the whale??!??!? Funny joke by the comic books guy tho. The invisible job chasing the car was also funny. Really, this episode as a whole was kinda crappy. [May 23 is the season finale]

Family Guy (S08Exx): not this week. [May 23 is the season finale]

Monday:
How I Met Your Mother (S05Exx): not this week. [May 24 is the season finale]

House, M.D. (S06E19): Talk about an open marriage!! I still can't get over Chase being a part of this "new" team... even though I have no problem with Foreman being in it. Thirteen is pretty smart to House's logic these days. I forgot that Wilson received his divorce papers from this wife when he was at that conference in New Orleans. Chase looked the most shocked at Taub's announcement of trying an open marriage himself. But the Emmy of the episode goes to Taub's wife in the parking garage. I was not impressed with Thirteen's reaction to Taub not cheating on his wife. Similarly, my jaw dropped when Taub kisses the girl at the end and then proceeds to go with her "someplace" !!! [May 17 will be the finale this season]

Little People, Big World (S05E27 & S05E28): No more Europe. :( (but I think we'll be there again next week, LoL.) Matt made a reference to a Christmas list, so I'm not sure what time of year it is now. It doesn't look really cold out, tho. Jeremy doesn't even have a shirt on. Matt really has a lot of work to do when getting into that Caterpillar thing. I thought it was interesting that Matt justified his crazy ways by saying "I could be one of those husbands that never gets off the couch and just watches sports all day," LoL. We didn't see much of the kids this episode. I didn't realize that Matt & Amy were their show's producers.

Dwarf games are in two months... "I need to know by February 20th" um, when is it now?? Interesting conflict where Matt wanted to take the team to Ireland independently and Amy thought it should be done through DAAA. Why did the commercials try to make a big deal out of Zach's soccer rival coming by with a driver? LoL. Interesting that someone who has known the family as an outsider for years noticed the amount of arguing between Matt & Amy rather quickly. I'm curious as to how moral Matt thought he was being when he wanted to pull independence from DAAA. I also don't think Matt was super-caring about Amy having to step down from the DAAA Board, which was a position that she regarded highly. "Can I eat with you?" kinda looked like Matt normally doesn't eat with everyone else, and that's kinda sad.

Tuesday:
Table for 12: nope. I don't understand why we saw one episode from the new season and now nothing. :(

missing the eps "summer," "busy day," "jumping in," "brace yourself," "back to school"

19 Kids and Counting (S04E13): I liked JimBob's intro in the woods. It's nice that they are doing something 10 years later, so some kids are doing it again, but most are getting to experience something that "Round 1" got to do. Pinnacle Mountain. Why is the van red? Jennifer trying to say "bug club" was interesting. I was surprised that NONE of the older girls participated in the camouflage game. I would've thought Jinger might have. 3 pounds 12 oz is baby Josie now, and it's her due date, so we're looking at a film date of around March 18th. The girls should have worn something besides flip-flops, and I think they knew this. I also thought they should have carried some water bottles with them. Overall, I thought that this episode was one of the most boring ever.

Wednesday:
South Park (S14E07): I'm never a big Towelie fan. But, I guess it's about time they had an intervention for him, LoL. 2,000 cans of computer duster a day is crazy funny. Cartman making fun of Kyle instead of addressing Towelie was funny. ...and that's all I have to say about that.

Seven Shows that Change(d) my Life

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Yeah. I know. With a title like that, you're expecting an awe-inspiring list. notsomuch. Instead, I'm going to talk about seven shows that I have moved my life around for, so I could catch them at their original airing.

I think I should have realized I was destined to be a TV junkie when I was nine years old.

In the 4th grade, on the first day of school, we filled out little surveys about ourselves. Birthday, favorite color, favorite food, if we had siblings, etc. One of the questions on there was "Favorite Day of the Week." I answered Tuesday.

Fast-forward to sometime in the spring (we read our lists to the class on our birthdays, and my birthday is the end of January), when my class was walking to the computer lab. A girl in my class asked me if Tuesdays were my favorite day because it was computer day (and in the 4th grade, that meant Oregon Trail!!). I said no, and told her why: "the new episodes of Full House come on on Tuesdays." She thought that was weird.

So, Full House was the first show that I ever revolved my life around. When I first started watching it, my bedtime was 8pm, so I'd have to connive my dad into making it 8:30 on Tuesdays. My brother and sister weren't big fans. And not only did I watch it, but I recorded all of the episodes. By the time the finale rolled around, I had 8 VHS tapes' worth of Full House. My brother later taped WWF & WCW stuff over them.

Now, on to the list of other shows that I shuffle my life around. We're gonna go chronologically today.

- Full House. See above, LoL.

- Home Improvement. Another Tuesday night staple. I was one of the many teenage girls infatuated with the male stars on this sitcom. I watched every second, just in case they showed Wilson's face, LoL. The only episode I ever missed after I started watching the show was the last two parts of the finale (I was breaking up with a boyfriend that night and he wasn't taking it well... it dragged on and on and I missed the finale live, LoL).

- Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? This one was especially difficult. When I was into it, it was on four or five nights a week. For two weeks. This happened like three times in a couple years. The biggest problem was that it ended up running against other things I was committed to watching, so I'd have to tape the regular show in the living room and watch this in my mom's room, LoL.

- Boy Meets World. I thought the first two or three seasons were so-so and watched when I was available. But after that, Friday nights were for this show. If I was over at a friend's house, we'd watch it. There was a few months where I skated on Friday nights so I had to tape them. And there were a few special occasions where it was missed (the first weekend of the County Fair every February, for instance), but for the most part, I watched it.

- ER. While many people went out drinking on Thursday nights, I was home at 10pm watching ER. I'd have a friend or two over most of the time in the later seasons. When I lived in California, my husband would watch it with me (this is only notable because he does not care for 95% of the shows I like). I even had to work out a schedule on vacation twice to watch this one.

- 7th Heaven. This was probably the easiest one to plan around. When I had jobs that required evening shifts, nobody ever wanted to meet on Mondays so it was available. Still, I sometimes had to shuffle things around to make it happen. During the final-final season (you may remember that it ended twice), I'd save my most brainless tasks for Sunday night to do while watching (you know, alphabetize 180 papers or grade 5-question quizzes, etc.).

- um, Mondays. I word it that way because if I'm not home on Monday nights, most of the time I'm gonna be missing something. There are times of the year when I watch FOUR programs at 8pm on Mondays. DVR can only handle two. The two my husband also watches get those slots. This leaves me to watch one online (since ABCFamily has that option) and watch one at its second airing (most of the time, TLC has that option). But, since those two options aren't the most reliable, I try to be home.

I know a lot of people who re-arrange things to watch Lost. And I had a very good friend who pretended he played intramurals so an organizational meeting would be scheduled after 24 every week. What shows have changed the way you live your life?

Favorite Episodes: The Cosby Show

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Most of my friends don't understand my love for The Cosby Show. I remember being about seven years old and watching little Olivia playing the cutest little preschooler that ever was. There were years when I didn't see the show, but it was played plenty during Nick-at-Nite when I was in college (and, let's not lie, many a college student watches his/her share of Nick-at-Nite), so I got to catch up. And it's a good thing I did, because I never knew about the Pam character in my childhood. And I didn't know that Theo became a good student. And I didn't know that Rudy eventually hit puberty and had to deal with all of the drama that goes along with that. There are tons of good episodes of The Cosby Show, but there are a few really boring ones, too. Today, we explore my favorites from each of the eight seasons. My favorite was season 6, where I was between about five episodes (not even considering the holiday-themed ones!) to pick my favorite!

Season 1: "Independence Day" (S01E14) The pilot is fabulous. But, as a rule, I try not to choose pilots. Instead, I go with the episode where Theo gets his ear pierced. Cliff leaves his own father to deal with it, and we hear a bunch of stories of Huxtable men doing crazy things to impress girls.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Season 2: "Denise's Decision" (S02E23) Denise can't decide where she wants to go to college. She has had several acceptances, and everyone in the family has an opinion. She has it narrowed down to two, and at dinner announces she has chosen the alma mater of quite a few family members: Hillman. No clip.

Season 3: "The March" (S03E06) Theo is working on a paper for school, but does poorly. He goes to rewrite it, and gets first-hand experiences from his grandparents and parents about the March on Washington. I think the reason that I like it so much is because of the passion portrayed in the re-tellings of that day.
Part 1 Part 2

Season 4: "Where's Rudy" (S04E09) Clair is entering a squash contest at the mall. The whole family is there, but Theo and Vanessa lose Rudy. She hangs out with a friend while Vanessa and Theo go crazy looking for her. Theo and Clair get wind of what's going on and use it to teach the older kids a lesson. I always love the way the Huxtables learn lessons!
Part 1 Part 2

Season 5: "Together Again and Again" (S05E01) So much takes place in this episode! Theo starts college and realizes not everything will be done for him... like finding housing. Sondra and Elvin announce that they are expecting (even though they still live in that small apartment). Denise officially drops out of college, and everyone is shocked.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Season 6: "The Birthday Party" (S06E14) Olivia wants a tricycle for her birthday, and enlists the help of her friends to find it. Denise is having trouble doing everything for the party, and makes a cake that has no sugar (or anything else yummy). It's a good thing Cliff helps out!
Part 1 Part 2

Season 7: "Bird in the Hand" (S07E02) Denise isn't done with a term paper that's due the same day she is supposed to volunteer at Olivia's preschool. So, Cliff fills in for Denise. The only problem is that he was supposed to go to an auction that day, so he has to bid over the phone.
Part 1 Part 2

Season 8: "Theo's Future" (S08E14) I wanted to pick the finale. I so, so did. But I think that's because I'm nostalgic. The only truly funny part about it is Cliff trying to invite 8 million people to an event that Theo only has x tickets for. Instead, I pick the episode where Theo starts thinking about his future after college. He can go to graduate school, or he can move to San Francisco for a job.
Part 1 Part 2

Main Season Shows Starting to Wrap Up...

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Friday:
Miami Medical (S01E03):
This was a really good episode. I hope it brings more viewers to the show in the future. Pretty wedding gown. I had never heard of a "microburst" before, and I lived in South Florida for almost fourteen years. Are there no exceptions to cutting off clothing? Even in a wedding dress?? I think they did a really good job cinematographically with showing who each victim was from the opening scenes. I'm really getting a feel for the characters now, so that's good. sweet little ceremony at the end. haha, Dr. Chris drinks scotch? really? so young? weird. The two phones thing was funny, too.

Sunday:
Minute to Win It
(Season 1, Week 6): strange opening with the firefighters stuff. I think it's a little early in the show to be having themed episodes already, LoL. Yellow shirt fire captain ("Cookie") looked kinda young to have been working for over 30 years. I also liked how they themed the timer on the games, that was cool, I could get used to that. I was surprised that, after the second game, they had his daughter come down from the audience to give the guy a hug, LoL.
Game 1: Dizzy Mummy: spin around to unroll an entire roll of toilet paper in a minute. You break a piece, you lose. He seemed to have a system, and finished in less than 30 seconds.
Game 2: Suck it Up: that hard game where you use a straw and the sucking motion to move M&Ms from a bowl to the tops of other straws. He has to do two in 60 seconds. At least he knew how to pick them up, unlike the last person who had this challenge. However, his flaw was in setting them down on the straws, where he had none at the buzzer. On his second try he got them both on the first try and was done in a snap.
Game 3: Stick the Landing: throw a bottle partially-full of water onto a table and have it land upright. You have ten tries, one bottle per table. His last try came the closest, as it landed upright, but it promptly slid off of the table. On his second round, he gets it on the fourth or fifth try.
Game 4: Bulb Balance: Sprinkle salt on a light bulb to balance a raw egg on it. You have to do this twice. You only have a small packet of salt to work with. He was really working at the task intently, but he was shaking badly and had one up for a couple of seconds before it fell, but that was it.
Contestant #2: I wonder if firefighting in LA actually pays enough to live on out there? I loved his attitude and demeanor, so fun.
Game 1: Fish Head: Blindfolded (wearing blacked-out goggled), you have to put a lampshade on your head with a fishing pole. This was entertaining to watch, and he got it with 20-something seconds left.
Game 2: Knock it Off: Use the spinning ball of yarn to knock over 3 of 5 soda cans. The trick? Each soda can is on another, and you can't knock over the bottom cans. I thought he'd be good at this one, and he did it in half the time the best guy before him did, as he was done in 20 seconds!
Game 3: Junk in the Trunk: the 8 ping pong balls inside the tissue box, tied to your backside, and you shake to get them out. He was done in like 10 seconds.
Game 4: Paper Dragon: hold the end of a streamer in each hand. Using a windmill motion, swing around and unravel both of the streamers (500 foot rolls!) in a minute. If one breaks, you can pick it up and keep going. He didn't do the windmill the entire time, and finished the yellow but not the green. He didn't have much further to go, but he didn't quite make it. On his second try, he again was having problems with the yellow. He was working HARD to get them to come out faster. The green was done with 15 seconds to spare, and 3 seconds later he finished the yellow! yay!
Game 5: Go the Distance. Use a tape measure as a bridge to get a ping pong ball into a shot glass - 5, 6, and 7 feet away, respectively. He gets the first two pretty easily, and the third one with ten or eleven seconds to spare.
Game 6: Mouth to Mouth: Four empty glass bottles are topped with four upside-down glass bottles. In between the mouths are dollar bills. He only has those four chances to get one of the dollar bills out without knocking either bottle over. He got it FAST on the first pair of bottles. Just a couple of seconds and he ripped it out of there! I'm thinking this was one of the games that he had really well practiced! For fun, the host had him try the rest, and he failed those three times.
Game 7: next time!

The Simpsons (S21E18): cute little opener this week with the family's faces being courses of dinner. neat little digimon-ish toys, LoL. Wiggam and Homer hanging out was strange. The "officer up" thing was a little disturbing. I was totally grossed-out by the way the food was prepared at the diner. This was the first time that I realized Skinner has a diploma from "Springfield Diploma Mill" lolol. Do you realy get a bullet-proof vest dry-cleaned? um, I don't think so. "Battlebots" ... cool. And what in the world is "hospital beer" ?? Why was Wiggam using a cane... he wasn't shot in the leg. Strange yet amusing goof on Flanders in the end.

Family Guy (S08Exx): not this week

Monday:
How I Met Your Mother (S05E20): why didn't Ted's mom stop the creepy guy from talking about sexual things?!? Silly suit bride. LoL. And the groom wore a sweater? um, ok. and GEEZ strange gift!! LOOOOVE Barney running off to tell "Aunt Meridith" about Robin crying. The giant stack of napkins was random. really? Ted thinks multiple people have favorite real estate auction websites?? I don't know that Ted buying a house was the stupidest thing ANY of them have ever done, LoL. Marshall and the "drunk or kid" game was funny. I am completely not going to believe that Barney cried to that song, LoL. What was with Lily's hair at the house? Marshall went into a COMA from riding his bike down a ladder? LoL. The house inspector talking about Lily was funny! Where did they get beers from at the house?? "your heart is both drunk and a kid" was funny. Interesting that Marshall knew that Ted wasn't gonna get rid of that house.

House, M.D. (S06E18): The opening sequence was too long and rather boring. It seemed to take forever to get to the hospital. How does Chase not know who Frodo is??!? I can't handle looking at the patient's eyes. The looks on Taub and Chase's face during the "I told you" / "and I told you" scene were crazy! The transvestite called him "horse" hahahahahahahaha. I guessed the lead thing a few seconds ahead of the team, which is probably the first time that has ever happened! Yay! Lucas is back! And House hired him to find out more about Wilson's girl/ex-wife. The patient sure seemed to have a junk-ton of ailments this episode! I liked the "let the king out of the tower." And I'm not sure how I feel about 13 giving relationship advice, LoL. House throwing out the psychiatric records on Sam was a big step for him, and I think that was supposed to be emphasized when he took ibuprofen next.

Little People, Big World (S05E25 & S05E26): .That was a weird elevator that they used, LoL. It was cool to see them at their first cathedral in Florence, since I had studied it in art history and history of architecture. I think it would have been interesting to see how Amy, Molly, and Jacob dealt with the language barrier someplace. Just because I'm thinking it would have been amusing to see Jacob be confused and laugh at Amy try to figure things out, LoL. Jacob really wanting to go swimming in a pool was funny. Wow there were a ton of people out to see that team practice playing soccer, LoL. We got some interesting shots of Venice from the gondola. Too bad that the pool was drained when they went to try and make Jacob happy. But his running like crazy through the hotel to the beach was a bit too staged, LoL. It was really sweet to see all of them meet up after so long. Amy pointing out that she's glad that Jeremy and Zach are still getting along was strange... like she truly didn't believe it was going to work out for just the two of them to be on a trip together, LoL.
The tensions between the parents are becoming apparent again. I thought that Matt was in charge of planning the France part of the trip... so how come he didn't bust out a plan once they got to Paris? I think it's interesting that Amy tries to fit in and act like she's the same as everyone else, while Matt tries to create special opportunities because of his condition.

Tuesday:
Table for 12: nope.

missing the eps "summer," "busy day," "jumping in," "brace yourself," "back to school"

19 Kids and Counting (S04E12): I never thought of Amy and Anna hanging out, LoL. Amy chasing the dog around showed the sound guy, LoL. They are kinda cool together, talking about shopping and such. Nobody has a problem with Amy having a dog in the store? Anna had a decorative necklace on. They really thought they could learn online? Why not take the class at JoAnn's or Michael's or whatever? I mean, I get the economics of it, but c'mon. Anna's wearing her makeup differently now. Anna doesn't like dieting... nobody does, LoL. On the second dday they went to Amy's, and Grandma Duggar tried to help with the crocheting. Piano lessons, guitar lessons, selling, crocheting... Anna's a quitter, LoL. Nobody supervises the little kids when they eat breakfast/lunch? 3 pounds 8.5 ounces on the show, and they suggested she might go home as early as a week from then. Since she went home a couple weeks ago, the gap may be getting shorter. She still looks so tiny. It was interesting to watch Josie take an oral feeding for the first time.

16 and Pregnant (S02E10): Kailyn is a senior in HS in Nazareth, PA. Show starts at 24 weeks, and it opens by letting us know her dad is a deadbeat and her mom lives in a hotel with her boyfriend, so Kailyn moved in with her boyfriend's family, and shares a room with him. They have only been together for nine months, and his family is kinda pro-adoption. She's trying to hide her pregnancy from people other than close friends and family (her mom was pro-abortion), so we see the shopping, which isn't something we have seen before. She's thinking of facebooking her dad's sister and getting in touch, too. PROBLEM: "it could happen to any one of us" = that means none of you are being super-careful about birth control. I think it's funny that she thought she looked fat, and that her friends were all "no, honey, you look pregnant." Her mom has no job and no apartment but she wants to buy the baby furniture. The aunt and the dad send a super-long email inviting her down to Texas to meet. Does the boyfriend's family only have two bedrooms? It looks like a big place. Or are there siblings that we're not seeing on-camera? We know he had at least one brother, presumably older because of his name, but he "came over" so I assume he lives elsewhere. Why does he go by "Jo" if his name is Jonathan? LoL. How come she didn't have the "what sex is it" sonogram until she was 30 weeks? Is she not really into prenatal care? I mean, I do assume she has no health insurance, but c'mon. Jo's not really into her anymore, it's kinda clear that he's getting ready to break up with her if they weren't having a baby. It's unclear whether she is still going to school or if she has dropped out. They also never really say how she did on the SATs that she took near the beginning. It also all of a sudden became DECEMBER when she heads to see her father... she was supposed to go during Thanksgiving. I gotta say, Kailyn is one of the most annoying girls I've seen on this show. Interesting that she hugged her dad right away. I haven't seen my dad since I was 12 and I certainly wouldn't have hugged him right away if I saw him. Someone stole $200 of meat from his refrigerator?? What?? That's why there's a lock on the fridge?? Maybe the aunt should have come to the airport, too... maybe that could've smoothed things a bit. We don't even see her, because next thing you know she's back in PA. I guess she dropped out and is doing a GED because of how they mention she'll be done before the baby's born. LoL, she doesn't know what to ask, but at least she knows she wants to major in dental hygiene. Interesting that she had two tour guides, but one was another teen mom, so I guess she was useful, given the situation. Sometime short of 8 hours into labor she had an epidural. 11 hours in, she's pushing. I think she's one of the only (if not THE only) mothers to wait and find out what it is at the birth. Everyone seemed happy that it was a boy. Jo curses a ton in front of the tiny baby. Oh, here we go, "I did well enough on my SATs" lol. I think it's interesting that most of the girls on this show act like they got pregnant by the first guy they've had sex with... and I don't know how realistic that is.

Wrap-up Finale (S02E11): I didn't have anything to say about some of the teen moms. I wish there was some sort of head's-up on which will be followed (if any) for the next Teen Mom. Janelle - they're still suffering from Janelle not always taking care of the baby and passing the buck to her mother. Kailyn - She got engaged... intriguing. I hate her nails. She and her mom no longer communicate at all. Samantha - yeah, I totally see her kid being a teenage parent in 16 years. Leah - she handles the twins in strife. Chelsea - good thing she has her dad. Nikkole - I don't know why ANYONE thinks that having a baby will help your relationship. The boyfriend got yelled at on this one. And he looked kinda "whatever" about it all. I know there were ten of them this time instead of six, but I was surprised that more of them didn't have more questions for one another.

Wednesday:
South Park (S14E06): okay, so this is the second half. Cartman's hand being in Saigon was creepy. Santa Claus coming out of the bear costume was weird. The bleeping of "Mohammad" was weird. I wasn't a big fan of the giant black censored box, either. Cartman's dad is a dead Denver Bronco? And he has a half-brother who's a ginger? There was way too much bleeping at the end, through the whole speeches. I'm kinda over it. I am glad, however, that the creepy hand thing is gone. I was completely stumped by the ending with the moon and the killer whale.

My Top Ten Game Shows

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

A couple days ago I read an article giving logical ideas on how to win various games within The Price is Right. I thought it was a clever thing to talk about, and even as a six-year-old, I would yell at players making dumb decisions. Even now, there are times when I look at the players like they're idiots on Wheel of Fortune when I've known the answer for 2-3 turns and they're still buying vowels. This whole thing got me thinking about my favorite game shows, which have changed somewhat over the years. The Price is Right would have been in the top 5 if Bob Barker was still hosting. Drew Carey isn't a bad host, but I just can't stand him, so it's been knocked from the Top Ten.

10. Classic Concentration. My brother and I were into memory games when we were kids. In fact, we had like a mega-memory game and the generic one that all six-year-olds seem to own, that came in the plastic container with slots for each card. Our mega set had over 50 cards to it, since we had a hard time even laying all of them out. So, I had a good time watching other people try to remember where cards were. BUT, what made this a great game show was the rebus puzzle behind the cards. This was the first rebus I had ever seen, and I still love them. I think that I have a slight advantage over other people in reading them because of this show, LoL.

9. Wipeout. I love a good physical challenge show. And while this one may be incredibly goofy sometimes, I think it's awesome. When we lived in California I downloaded the application to apply to be on it, knowing full well that it would be more of an experience for me than a win, since I'm not that strong of a swimmer (and that's important in the final round), and I'm kinda paranoid about knocking out teeth and things like that. I think it's interesting that some of the rounds change from time to time, but I really enjoy the creativity in some of those gags! It's not like you could ever try it at home, LoL.

8. Lingo. This isn't one of the most popular games, and it's strictly words and a little luck (regarding what numbers you pull to get points and then win prizes). Basically, you stand around guessing 5-letter words. In the first two rounds, two teams of two are pitted against eachother, and they only ever get a letter to start with. They find out which letters are in the right positions and which are correct but in the wrong places, and get 5 chances to guess the word. In the final round, the better team tries to do ten of these in two minutes (you still get the first letter, but now also get a random second letter). They rarely get all ten, but that usually doesn't matter, they still win something. I'm not that good at the game, but I do get excited watching it.

7. I'm Telling! If there was one game on this list that I'd bet you hadn't heard of, it's this one. It ran on cable only, and only a season or two were made. It was a children's game show, specifically geared for brother-sister pairs. The set-up is like the NewlyWed Game, in that the brothers answer questions about the sisters and vice versa, and you get points when you're right. The losing two teams all got 10-speed bikes. The two winners took turns running through a "prize arcade." See, before the show, each kid had written down the six prizes they thought their sibling would want (out of ten). When you chose six in the final round, you were choosing the six that you wanted. If it matched, you won it. You'd always win two prizes because of the overlap in the math on that, and if you matched 10/12, you'd win all of the prizes. The only real catch? There were "boys' prizes" and "girls' prizes" so it was very sexist. My brother and I played along ALL THE TIME.

6. Supermarket Sweep. In case you haven't seen a pattern yet, my brother and I played along with this one, too. The game was pretty easy... some general questions to bring up your points, and each of the three teams rotated the players' turns. The real excitement was in the end, when you ran around the supermarket throwing foods in your cart to ring up the highest bill. There were also certain items that were announced that could get you extra stuff. Depending on how much time you had banked in the beginning, you could get extra time in the aisles. In theory, it shouldn't have been hard to rack up the bill, but you'd always see people throwing crap in their carts.

5. Wheel of Fortune. This one's a classic, and I don't think you can really argue with that. I love Vanna, mostly for her clothing. The contestants aren't always that exciting, but I generally like the puzzles, although there are certain categories that I like much more than others. Plus, it's still on, so I can catch it five times a week if I'm really bored, LoL.

4. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? So when I list this one, I'm only referring to the Regis Philbin-hosted version. This is because I believe that, arguably, most people agree he's the only true host of that show. I rank it so high for several reasons. First, the gimmick of only having it on for a couple weeks and then taking it away again was interesting. Plus, the lights and the concept and the ten possible contestants in the beginning were neat. Lastly, it came on when my now-husband and I were first starting to date, so we'd often watch the show at our respective parents' houses and talk about it on the phone.

3. Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? This show was supercool, especially from the seven-year-old's point-of-view. There was the mysterious storyline going on, plus some neat facts to learn, and lastly the running around putting the sirens on different countries/states. I always wanted to be on that show, and would have done really well since I knew my US map like the back of my hand by the time I was eight-years-old. PLUS, the prize was a trip to anyplace in the continental US! How neat!

2. Jeopardy! I love a good quiz show. I particularly love this one for several reasons, but the main ones at this point in my life are that the clues are always shown on the screen so I can read them while at the gym on the treadmill, and I have a wide berth of knowledge so this is a game I always have an excellent and a sucky category in. And I think this tends to be true for many of the contestants on the show. It's always good to watch when you're bored or on vacation and have no cable, or when you're with strangers and need an icebreaker on television, LoL.

1. Legends of the Hidden Temple. OF COURSE this is my #1 game show. It was THE COOLEST gameshow EVER. I may be too old to go on it now (in the event they bring it back), but it's still super mega awesome. There were six teams (of two) to start out with, and it always began with a physical challenge - crossing a moat. The first four teams to make it moved on. Then, on to some knowledge and listening comprehension, then some more physical stuff. But the end level was made up of running through a fun house of sorts (there were like seven different set-ups too, so it's not like you could memorize it beforehand... although there are websites out there with maps of each... I'm serious), collecting the artifact of the day by completing a task to open most of the doors, and avoiding the temple guard. Sometimes they'd also have to find part of their Pendant of Life, too. Both team members got to go in, and it just looked like so much fun! The only qualm I have about the game is that it always seemed the teams struggled with putting together the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, LoL. Oh, and it was another one that my brother and I would always talk about how we'd do each challenge if we were on a team, LoL.

Favorite Episodes: Yes, Dear

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

So this is kind of a weird show. I'll admit that upfront. I had never heard of it in first-run, and only started watching it one day when SOAPNet didn't come in and I couldn't watch Beverly Hills, 90210. Anyway, I ended up liking it, and during the eight months I worked from home in 2008-2009, I saw every episode. Later, when I read about the history of the show, I'm kinda glad I didn't watch it in first-run, as I'm pretty sure the way the final season ran would have made me very angry (long story short, it got canceled, then more episodes were ordered, and running the last bit out of order made for screwy and confusing plotlines).

If you've never seen the show, it's about four adults... two couples where the wives are sisters. One couple owns a large home in LA and has one (later two) child(ren). The other lives in the wealthier couple's guest house and has two young sons. The show often has two storylines going on, and splits the characters either by gender or by family. The fact that the show is not yet on DVD does make it harder to find video clips. Now, let's go over my faves (seasons 2 & 3 were the best!)...

Season 1: "Kiss and Yell" (S01E14). ALl four od the adults make liss of everybody that they've kissed. Kim doesn't believe Greg's list, and he'd insulted. Meanwhile, Christine finds out that Jimmy and Kim kissed while she was dating Jimmy.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Season 2: "Making Baby" (S02E22). Kim is ready for another baby, but Greg is worried that Kim will want more and more kids if he second one is another boy. Christine and Jimmy get some traveling missionaries to paint the house, and subsequently corrupt them. Couldn't find a clip, but they tend to run this one pretty often so try TBS, LoL.

Season 3: "March Madness" (S03E20). Greg has tickets to see a championship basketball game, but Kim doesn't want him to go since it conflicts with her grandmother's 80th birthday. Jimmy ends up going and has an unbelievable time. Meanwhile, Greg has a bad time at the birthday party, and Kim feels bad, so she starts doing special things for Greg. When Jimmy gets home, he claims they had an awful time so Greg won't feel bad, but that stops Kim's special treatments of Greg, LoL. No clip again.

Season 4: "Hooked on Comics" (S04E02). Greg's parents are visiting again, and his dad has become obsessed with Superman. Greg and Jimmy go with Greg's dad to a comic book convention, and Greg tries to get to the bottom of his dad's new hobby. Meanwhile, Kim has to deal with Greg's mother wanting her to dress Emily more like a girl. In the end, Kim lets Greg's mom take Emily on a shopping spree. No clips.

Season 5: "Senior Olympics" (S05E12). Greg's dad comes to town to participate in a fencing competition. Jimmy's dad decides to join in, and starts winning matches by default, and quickly makes it to the finals against Greg's dad. I found a clip of the fencing, and was going to just embed it, but the audio has been disabled, so just a link.

Season 6: "Dominic's First Date" (S06E02). Dominic is having a little girl over to play, and Christine and Jimmy prepare him differently. Christine wants him to be a gentleman, while Jimmy is worried that the little girl is making Dominic her slave. So he teaches Dominic to lead girls on, and soon his whole class is calling him on the phone. Meanwhile, Greg finds out that Kim has a box of mementos from old boyfriends. Again, no clips. Sorries. :(

Full Week!

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Friday:
Miami Medical (S01E02):
okay, this new doc is creeping me out. His sitting up on the edge of the roof was ridiculous. It's also interesting how vivid they are demonstrating the pain on this show... usually when a patient got flipped to check for gunshots on a show like ER, the pain to the patient appeared minimal... not here (or, at least, not today). Dr. DeLeo's accent threw me for a second there. AWESOME. "top of (his) class at FSU" is exactly what I wanted to hear about Dr. DeLeo. If he wasn't already everyone's favorite, he should be now. :-D Hooray for more humanitarianism with the Cuban doctor helping the Cuban patient's mother. It's so interesting to me to see the characters go outside and it's warm and sunny and there's palm trees everywhere... I'm so accustomed to the wind and rain and cold and snow of ER's Chicago. hahahaha on the end Yoda-speak. The writing was again pretty good in this one, tying up loose ends well, giving some good morals throughout... could use some more Omar Gooding, but maybe next week.

Sunday:
Minute to Win It
(Season 1, Week 5):
The first guy was a former USC football player. That's all we really found out about him, except for the fact that he is now 30 years old, LoL.
Game 1: Hanky Panky: the tissue-pulling game. He got it with 10 seconds to go.
Game 2: Knock It Off: use a ball of yarn (holding it by an end) to knock over three cans out of five. The trick? Each can is on top of another can (and you can't knock over the bottom one), and all of them are at different heights. He loses on his first try, since he knocked over too many bottom cans. On his second try, he got it with some time to spare.
Game 3: Junk in the Trunk: eight pin pong balls in an empty tissue box. It's attached to your backside, and you have to jump around to get all of the balls out. He had all eight out in ten or eleven seconds... he was good!
Game 4: Johnny Applestack: the one where you stack apples, this time 5 of them. As many tries as you want in a minute. This is a tough one to practice at home since no two apples are ever the same. He looked totally amazed when his stack was up and holding with 20 seconds to spare!
Game 5: Egg Roll: the one where you have to use a pizza box to fan three eggs into a specific location. He was going strong, but as he was trying to get the third egg in, the first two rolled out again. He kept facing this problem over and over, and he made it just on time.
Game 6: Suck it Up: Use a straw to suck up M&Ms from a bowl, bring them to a table that has a test tube holder thing holding four straws, and put one candy on each straw. And worse yet, they're flexi-straws! No hands allowed. The first one wasn't bad, the second one had four misses getting it on the straw, and time ran out. He was very positive about trying it the second time, and he did get further. He lost trying to get a fourth on.
Contestant #2: She
Game 1: Sticky Balls: Roll marbles toward a piece of tape (you're about a ping pong table away). Get 5 of them to stick. She got it pretty easily.
Game 2: Wheel of a Deal: that one where you have 20 face-down cards (A, K, Q, J, 10) and you have to flip them over and sort them onto podiums. She was on her last card when time ran out. On her second try there were a lot of one type of card left at the end, so I'm sure that helped her throughout.
Game 3: Hang Over: Take six wire clothes hangers and hang them in a chain so none of them slide to the sides. [whoa those are cool projections of hangers around the room!] It held for three seconds and she had 18 seconds to spare.
Game 4: Nimble Thimble. Bounce six marbles into six thimbles in one minute. Her friends were shouting out suggestions, but she never got a single one in the minute. I think that counts as the worst.fail.ever. LoL. I think she needed to raise how high her hand was and just drop it, stop trying to bounce it so hard. She got one in the first 30 seconds, but never managed to get a second, let alone any more. :(
Sidenote: those videos of people practicing at home... that final mom who practices ten minutes every hour on the hour was a bit intense for me.

The Simpsons (S21E17): What was with the burning blanket in the jail cell? Why have a party just for Burns? I mean, I know that's his thing, but he didn't really seem to enjoy the elaborate party, so what's the point? Wait, WHAT?? Homer makes $60k a year? In this economy? With no college degree? Something's fishy... He was funny when he poured out some of the expensive wine on the floor for taxes, haha. I liked the guys playing Twister with artwork, LoL. That whole "frostbite took his nose" thing didn't last long, either. And sometimes Bart is just too vulgar. It makes me angry. hahahahahahaha jail fraternities AND University of Virginia being a public Ivy League, haha.
Bart and Lisa holding hands was weird, and Santa's Little Helper eating the last ant was horrible.

Family Guy (S08E16): Weird take on Stephen Hawking. I liked how "Bird is the Word" made an appearance. Quagmire acting all strange and virginy was funny. It took me a minute to realize he was kidding... but Joe took it surprisingly well. Megan's mentioning of killing cats bothered me. That was QUITE the April Fool's joke there!!

Monday:
How I Met Your Mother (S05E19): Okay, it wasn't the best episode ever, but I did watch it twice already, LoL. I love how it started with "there's a fine line between a true story and a bold-faced lie." LOOOOVED the Sleepless in Seattle scene. "Marshall! we've driven halfway across the country literally a hundred times for a piece of pizza" haha, Ted. I think Barney had the best reaction to Marshall announcing he was mugged. And the "I got mugged in 1947 at the corner of Abbott and Costello" was hilarious. Barney's reaction to Robin's gun was also amusing. I love that Lily still has a bit of a shopping problem. Funny thing with flashbacks of Marshall hurting Lily on accident, but they didn't include the sword episode!! I also enjoyed how Barney kept making the story more and more interesting, and therefore gave Marshall awesome old things to act out, LoL. The cute Curious George comment was funny, too. "my space shuttle keys" - who believes that?? I liked the three-high-five between Barney and Lily, but am unclear on how Barney got the three-way-belt... didn't Ted have it? I'm mis-remembering something... Marshall's soft spot for monkey love was cute. The fact that the gang "never found out what happened" seems kinda shammy to me... I'm thinking the guy with the gun. I think that Marshall would have been upfront and silly about a story with a monkey thief... not changing it to be a guy. Also, Ted's "red leather, yellow leather" brought back some acting warm-ups for me, LoL! The monkey gets loose.... grabs a doll... climbs the mock Empire State Building... a guy throws paper airplanes at him... love it.

House, M.D. (S06E17): Hugh Laurie directed this episode. Why doesn't Cameron want to talk about her marriage to Chase? I thought it was funny that House messed with his malpractice files that much! And I thought it was weird that Foreman was willing to take Vicodin to spend as night as House. Cameron NEVER KNEW if she loved Chase??

Little People, Big World (S05E23 & S05E24): Starts at about Day 10 of the trip, and the twins are struggling with the language barrier in getting directions. Even Jeremy looks really overwhelmed when he can't read the German menu and nobody who works there speaks English. Didn't they have a dictionary of any sort? At least so they could look up how to say "chicken" or "fish" or something? LoL. I thought it was interesting that Matt wanted to let everyone else go ahead so they'd be tired by the time he arrived... it doesn't sound like it would make sense (when you consider that Matt is generally really gung-ho at the start of stuff). It was impressive to see how early Molly was packed. It kinda reminded me of when I was going off to college and I was packing my 2 rubbermaid tubs weeks in advance, LoL. Rome seems like a neat place to tour by Vespa. I didn't even know that there was a "center" of the European Union. Having soil samples from each of the 27 countries in the center was neat. I also thought it was interesting that the boys have iphones... and so do the Duggars. I wonder if it's a TLC push?
What's this "that's legit" phrase that Jeremy uses so much?? It was moving to see Zach sink to his knees at the concentration camp when it hit him that Hitler would have killed him for his disability. It was also neat to see the wear on the steps at the Leaning Tower of Pisa... I hadn't thought about that, nor noticed it at other historical landmarks that I have visited.

Tuesday:
Table for 12: not this week .

missing the eps "summer," "busy day," "jumping in," "brace yourself," "back to school"

19 Kids and Counting (S04E11): I thought it was interesting that the television crew drove to TN to watch the Bates leave, LoL. And that Gil Bates refers to their lateness as being on "Duggar Time" hahaha. It's nice for Joy Anna, since there's more girls her age in the Bates family. It was a little more Bates-interview heavy than other episodes featuring that family, so that was interesting. LoL on Trace Bates's nickname being "Chubby." Interesting comment by Michelle on the fact that there seem to be some random boy-girl feelings but nobody knows what may come of it. LMAO we see Josh laying in bed while everyone else is ready to go. I thought it was funny that JimBob missed his assigned shower slot and had to wash his hair in the kitchen LoL. Why do we care that the two families have logged 10,000 hours of church in 20 years? If the average family goes for an hour a week, they'd get 50 hours in a year, which is 1,000 hours in 20 years. Is the point that the Duggars spend 5x more time in church? I thought it was random that Cousin Amy showed up, LoL. And, of course, Josh looks uber-tired in service. One of those older Bates girls looks a lot larger than I remember. Awwww, the Bates are now expecting #18. :) I wonder what else the families did together on this trip, since they were there for seven days... I do think that the families used the word "fellowshipping" a bit much, LoL.

16 and Pregnant (S02E09): Lizzie, Smithfield, VA, Junior in HS, friendly divorced parents. She has bad taste if she thinks Skylar is cute, LoL. Starts at 5 months, when she's already dropped out of school and is homeschooling. She's was pretty average to start out with, regarding body size/looks. Her parents talk really quietly. What was wrong with the soft blue that was in the room to start out with? She was really into band, LoL. Sounds like she was a good flutist, LoL. Interesting that Skylar asked her dad if he could marry her, and he says "I'm going to do everything I can to keep us together," and then we find out that he cheated on her. But, at the same time, it was in the past... why did all that drama come out 8 months later?? "What did you think of me when we met?" "I liked your eyebrow piercing" WTH?!? She didn't seem surprised at all at the proposal. I had no idea that they made belly button rings specifically for pregnant women! LoL, combined baby shower/graduation party. Labor at 37 weeks. Born January 30th, 2010, so it's not that old, LoL. She stops breastfeeding at 2 weeks, but doesn't seem sure of her thought process... I think she could have used a coach. I thought she was doing well at going back to school when the baby was 3 weeks old, and balancing the baby on her chest as she worked, but when she quit a week later, I was sad. When she had to tell her mother how to mix the baby's formula, that was a good sign of her parenting, since mom hadn't helped up until then. It was, overall, a very good episode, since she had clear life goals in the beginning and we saw how, one by one, they kept getting crushed, flipped upside-down, and changed.

Wednesday:
South Park (S14E05): Why does Tom Cruise have so many closets? What was up with Cartman and the guy on his hand, LoL? ...and that's all I have to say about this episode. For the 200th, it wasn't all that memorable.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Off season:
Jon and Kate Plus Eight: still missing the finale, "It's a Crazy Life, But it's Our Life"
Wipeout (summer)
The Secret Life of the American Teenager
The Goode Family (Mondays at 10pm on Comedy Central)
Futurama (June 24th)
Cake Boss
Sons of Tucson (will air the other 9 episodes this summer)

Top Ten Television Shows Set in Miami, FL

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

So, Miami Medical premiered last week. And it got me thinking about other television shows that are set in Florida, since I'm kinda from there. But, more specifically, which shows are set in Miami. Now, since Miami Medical just premiered, it isn't really fair to put it on this list yet (although I must say that I hope it climbs toward the top one day!).

10. The Real World: Miami. This is #10 because, as a rule, I do not watch the MTV Real World/Road Rules television shows. So, I have never actually seen this show, but I know that a lot of people are really into the various incarnations of Real World and so it made the cutoff. It appears that the unique things about this show were the start of season-long tasks (like getting $50,000 to start a business... that never happens) and the fact that some of the character's friends made a home movie when visiting (that another character flips out about after flashing the camera multiple times).

9. Nip/Tuck. While a popular show, it wasn't entirely set in Miami. Only the first half of the show was there, and then it moved to Los Angeles. Two plastic surgeons performing operations on a variety of people. It was rather consistently nominated for Emmy Awards in Makeup. I think I saw an episode once, but it might have been one of those other weird doctor shows, like Dr. 90210. It did well, considering it ran on F/X.

8. Miami Vice. A couple of cops solving crimes in Miami during the 80s. Drugs, prostitutes, and guns. Much like Miami today, actually. Fun Fact: they didn't film things red or brown, LoL. Apparently they used a lot of music and were very influential in Art Deco architecture. And apparently they invented wearing t-shirts under Armani jackets. And they had ferraris. And expensive boats. And, at the beginning of the series, they got a lot of Emmy nominations.

7. Miami Ink. A reality show about a tattoo parlor. It's been going on for four seasons (spin-offs for LA, London, and Rio exist now). The premise was pretty much a bit of info on the employees, but the main focus was on the background of the customer and his/her motivation for getting the tattoo.

6. Dave's World. So there's this guy named Dave Barry who has a (syndicated) column in the Miami Herald. His two books were the basis for this show, and it was very true-to-life regarding what took place and what the characters did. It ran for four seasons, and while it was running there was a thing where the real Dave got divorced, LoL.

5. Dexter. This is one creepy show, let's not lie. Dexter works as a blood splatter analyst for the Miami police department... and he's also a serial killer. It's based on a series of novels, and it runs on Showtime, so viewership numbers run on a different scale, and there's only like 12 episodes in a season. The fifth season is yet to come. Dexter was taught to kill "those who deserve it" by his adoptive father (who died before the show started), and keeps a few drops of each victim's blood between microscope slides. His wife was killed at the end of Season 4. Because of the nature of the show (rooting for a killer not to get caught, etc.), there were all kinds of issues with a broadcast network airing the show where children could see it, but it did air on CBS during the Writers' Strike.

4. CSI: Miami. It's been on since 2002, and it's kinda like every other CSI show. In fact, I'm not sure that there's much of a distinction at all.

3. Empty Nest. A middle-aged man's wife dies, and his daughters move home to live with him. He was a pediatrician who works in a hospital, then a clinic. They have a large dog. Apparently they had a random neighbor, much akin to Kramer on Seinfeld, it seems. In the last two seasons, Sophia from The Golden Girls was on the show, too.

2. Burn Notice. Now we're talking. This show is really unique. The central cast is a guy, his best friend, his ex-girlfriend (no co-worker of sorts), and his mother. He's kinda a freelance spy, since he got kicked out of being a real spy. The episodes generally deal with him helping to solve a mystery/crime while building neat MacGuyver-esque devices or using similar tactics to escape. The best friend and the ex help. She also sells black market goods. Mom also lives in Miami, so she frequently finds out about crazy goings-on, although Michael (the guy) often tries to keep her in the dark. Runs on USA, coming back in June.

1. Golden Girls. 7 seasons of Saturday nights featuring four senior citizen women living together. And it is darn funny. A ditzy one, a promiscuous one, a logical one, and a crazy old bat. The really old one is Dorothy (logic)'s mother, and the house belongs to Blanche (promiscuous). The storylines often revolve around the girls' occupations (substitute teacher, art museum worker, a grief counselor), health, families, and love lives. And, I must admit, that I put it as #1 because I think the comedy is pretty perfect for late-night, since I often fall asleep watching the reruns, LoL.

Favorite Episodes: Grounded for Life

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Since Miami Medical premiered and I just wrote about it on Friday, I thought it might be fun to go back to Mike Vogel's first television show, Grounded for Life, and feature that (even though he wasn't really a main character for most of the series). I knew of this show in first run, but never watched it until it was running on TBS in the afternoons. I found it to be pretty funny, and enjoyed the atypical storylines, cinematography, and storytelling (often in reverse, etc.). The first season is pretty good, and season 3 is definitely my least-favorite, but overall it's a decent show.

Season 1: "Devil with a Plaid Skirt" (S01E03) Jimmy is faking possession while Lily deals with a dress code violation. Of course, Sean gets out of hand while trying to prove that Lily's skirt isn't shorter than anyone else's.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Season 2: "Baby, You Can't Drive My Car" (S02E01) Lily and Brad steal her parents' car. Sean is upset while Claudia hopes to get a ton of insurance money from it. But when the car shows up again, the Finnerty family is without luck. They even have to buy back their own car parts from Eddie's shady mechanic.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Season 3: "Claudia in Disguise with Glasses" (S03E10) Contacts become a pain so Claudia tries out glasses. But she loses them (when really Sean hid them) and fumbles around, messing up a wedding reception. Meanwhile, Lily convinces Eddie to make Dean get her a great present for her 16th birthday. Plus, they're about to lose their health insurance, so Sean is going nuts trying to get the kids caught up on anything health-related.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Season 4: "Space Camp Oddity" (S04E28) Lily has never believed that Brad had a girlfriend at Space Camp. So, out of spite, Brad goes to space camp for the summer, and proves that Lana exists.
Part 1 Part 2

Season 5: "I'm Looking Through You" (S05E07) Sean has an old friend who is a recovering alcoholic, and also a famous children's performer. Sean promises the school that JJ BodyBuddy will perform at the assembly, but the friend gets drunk and can't perform. So Sean puts on the suit and tries to give a performance... except he doesn't know his anatomy, LoL. Oh, and Lily's getting angry about the upcoming baby taking her parents' attention, so she's practicing her singing to go on tour overseas.

Miami Medical has Arrived!

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

We're back to starting with Friday instead of Sunday, because, like when I watched Monk, I can't be sure I'll see something live on Friday and be able to post immediately. So Friday shows get posted nearly a full week after they air, but otherwise not much has changed.

Friday:
Miami Medical (S01E01):
this week was the series premiere. I've been looking forward to this show long before most people even knew it was in the works. In fact, it used to be called "Miami Trauma" LoL, but that's enough fun facts. Anyway, it opened with a gas explosion, and it seems right off the bat that there is a camaraderie amongst the doctors. There's a little bit of exposition through medical accolades, and then there's a trauma to attend to. During it, the chief surgeon quits. There's a lot of interesting things happening. I like the humanity in the show; it's nice to see true compassion by doctors. The social scene is also nicely put, and I like the insertion of a new physician into the works as well. I'm looking forward to another episode. Don't get me wrong, it's no ER, but it is 2010 afterall.

Sunday:
Minute to Win It
(Season 1, Week 4): we pick up with that dog-crazy guy. Game 5: Stack Attack. 36 red cups - build a pyramid then take it down diagonally and put them all in a stack again. 8 on the bottom, on up. The guy was nervous and kept knocking over his cups on the first couple rows, made it, but made some mistakes taking it down again. Next try, he did it with like 8 seconds to spare.
Game 6: Defying Gravity: Keep 3 air-blown balloons in the air for a minute. He got through the first 20 seconds or so before things went downhill. He still went home with $50,000.
Next person: a teacher who wants to use the million dollars to fill her school library.
Game 1: Bottoms Up: The yoyo tied around your waist and you have to knock over four soda cans off platforms at different heights. She did it with 38 seconds to spare.
Game 2: Bobblehead: shake your head 125 times in a minute. She looked like she was shaking her hands more than she was shaking her head, LoL. She managed 144 head bobs in a minute, which is a new record on the show.
Game 3: Whack Job: the broom-whacking game. She got all 12 with 33 seconds to go.
Game 4: Tipsy: Balance 3 soda cans on the beveled edge. But you have to know how much to drink from the car to do it! They should at least crack them open for you!! She got the first one really easily. The second wasn't bad, but the third gave her trouble. She still passed with like 10 seconds to spare. I didn't even know you could balance cans like that! Sounds like a fun party trick!!
Game 5: Stack Attack. The guy before her had this one (he also had whack job for that matter). She had a different technique, and it seemed to work pretty well for her. She was cutting it close, but her two-handed techniques helped her pull through!
Game 6: Separation Anxiety: Use one hand to separate 50 M&Ms into 5 different cups, one for each color. She got it with two seconds to spare. I think I would go for all of one color first, but maybe that's not the best?
Game 7: Cantagious. 3 empty cans in one hand, three full in another. Swap them out without using the body as leverage or setting down any cans. She had a clear plan and did it in about 47 seconds!
Game 8: Ping Tac Toe: Alternate bouncing yellow and white balls until one lands in a glass of water. The glasses are arranged in a 3x3 pattern, and you have to form a tic-tac-toe with one of the colors. On her first try, she came close, but missed AND cheated by throwing another white after one hit the glass at the end. On her second go-round, her first ball was in the middle, but she didn't get a second in until there were only 6 seconds left. So, she had to use her last life on this one, which it's clear she didn't want to have to do. On her third try, she did better than the second but not as good as the first. Personally, I don't know if this is a task I could ever beat, let alone in just one minute!

Sons of Tucson (S01E04): less than two days after this episode aired, the show was canceled. There are 9 unseen episodes, and they will be burned off this summer in the 7-8pm hour on Sundays. Too bad, as I really enjoyed this show. oh well. :( Anyway, this episode was different. It starts with a career day where Ron makes up a secret agent job of sorts. Then, Brandon tries to remake the Gary's reputation and identity. Watching them clean the house was fairly amusing, they did crazy things like stuff placemats in the dishwasher and blow clothes around the bedroom using a leafblower. I love that his fake photo guy was getting arrested as he drove up, haha. There were some really funny moments when the photos didn't add up... like getting married in Egypt and dropping Brandon off for school with an Obama sticker in the background. "that's insane - why would you want to be you if you had a choice?" haha.

The Simpsons
: no new episode.

Family Guy: no new episode.

Monday:
How I Met Your Mother: no new episode.

House, M.D.: no new episode.

Little People, Big World (S05E21 & S05E22): Note: there were two episodes, but I am reviewing them as one. The twins were heading to Europe. Jeremy was really packing neatly and Zach was kinda all over the place. Zach seemed kinda scared to be even checking his bags alone. Two days in Scotland, they've already been up for 36 hours, and Zach wants to take a nap. They had a good experience eating sheep intestine, LoL. They had a personal tour guide on the second day, and Jeremy was really excited to get a kilt and go commando, LoL. LoL on the "nudie booty" for being "no underwear" - I hadn't heard that before. Cool that they tried playing the bagpipes. On to London, where they only had ONE day!! (I spent a week in London and didn't get to everything!!) It was cool that they played in a pick-up soccer game at Hyde Park. haha, Jeremy mispronounced "Thames River" LoL. They got off in Brussels and had a hard time finding the platform for the next train to Amsterdam. They found someone who spoke English, but the information he gave ended up being off by two gates. They boarded in time. I thought it was strange that Zach was wearing jerseys most of the time. They had a very friendly server at the Indonesian restaurant. One day in Amsterdam, and they had fun in paddle boats and also saw part of the Red Light District.

Tuesday:
Table for 12: no new episode.

missing the eps "summer," "busy day," "jumping in," "brace yourself," "back to school"

19 Kids and Counting (S04E10): Doe's Place. I am not sure why JimBob thought it would be such a neat place for the kids, but the seemed to enjoy it for the most part. The family then went to the Museum of Discovery, and the kids (of all ages) really seemed to have a fun time. Michelle had a pet tarantula growing up... that kinda took me by surprise... especially the part where she thought she held him too much since his legs started falling off!! It was interesting to see John-David talking up Josh. But it was more interesting to see Josh teaching about being debt-free and buying used instead of new. 275 months and 20,000 gallons of milk Michelle has made in her lifetime... goodness gracious!! It's nice that they're finally getting them organized tho, LoL! It was nice to see Jill and Jana visiting Josie in the hospital. They didn't give an age for Josie, but we know in reality that Josie has gone home, and that episode won't be shown for another month or so. "she's our baby" now I know she means the family's baby, but it was still strange wording nonetheless.

16 and Pregnant (S02E08): Leah, 17, from West Virginia, in the mountains. She just started dating Corey, and in just a month she was pregnant with twins. The episode started at 22 months. She was on the shot, and missed one when she broke up with a boyfriend, so that's how she got pregnant. I find it funny that they had to put captions on a lot of the dialogue in this episode because the mountain-ish talk can be difficult to understand. Also, their choice of vocabulary isn't always correct, LoL. Bearer and Barrier are different words, Leah's mom. She's taking off the first half of the school year?? To "get ready" ?? Interesting, she makes it clear that they're not in love.... and yet they were having sex. #fail. Leah's not really showing much, especially for twins! It was funny when she peed her pants, LoL. I don't like the fact that they NEVER wear seatbelts!! (except in one scene, but Leah still never does at all.) She gets her nails done in some weird patterns, LoL. She does have a really pretty face, tho. I thought it was weird that we didn't hear about what Corey does for a living. Also interesting that she had her baby shower at 6 months, when most of the other recent girls have had it much later. She started having contractions at 27 weeks. She's on bedrest but they didn't even put her in a wheelchair to exit the hospital?? I guess it's good that Corey hasn't abandoned her, but he should be more concerned with her taking bedrest seriously. At 33 weeks they moved in, and she gave up bedrest to pain, unpack, etc. Her water broke at 34 weeks. One of the babies is breech so c-section it is. The babies were close to four pounds each, which is still impressive since Leah wasn't that big. The babies went to the NICU, and stayed there for three weeks. She's just... "going back" to school without any trouble having missed the first half of the year? I don't get it. Dang this girl was really into HomeComing Week, LoL. Corey's really into Leah. It was sad that they broke up. Why does she wear those ribbon-bows on her head?? In the end, I don't understand why this episode was an hour and a half instead of an hour, but I do think that Leah handled everything pretty well, especially considering she had twice the work of many other teen moms.

Wednesday:
South Park (S14E04): The guys are joking on facebook. haha Farmville, LoL!! Stan being adamantly against facebook was funny. I instantly felt bad for Kip Drordy who had no facebook friends. Stan's dad asking if they'll be friends was silly. Wendy was funny, too. But his dad rules. Cartman's podcast was funny. Stan is trying hard not to get "sucked in" hahahahahahaha. A random guy spits on Stan for ignoring him? wth? The Tron thing was kinda strange. He literally got sucked in, hahahahaha. ChatRoulette is a lot of penises, LoL. The yahtzee thing really confused me... anyone understand that part? Kip and the sad clowns made me so, so sad.

5 Interesting Things about Eight Little Faces

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

In case you can't tell, I'm making my way through some books written by television stars. This week, when I picked up Eight Little Faces at the library, I was surprised at how short it is. Less than fifty pages, and full oh photos, the book is a short blurb, a piece of scripture, and some photos. Over and over. And, since it is so short, I'm only doing five thoughts instead of ten.

1. The verse in the Bible that the Duggars associate as the base for the quiverful movement is mentioned early in Kate's book. Psalm 127:3-5. Kate uses it to talk about the great responsibility that God has bestowed upon her when He made her the mother to six additional babies.

2. Kate worries each day when the kids are off to school. Apparently she has no trust in the teacher(s), bus driver, and school personnel.

3. There's a strange photo about halfway through the book that looks as if Kate allowed the children to play with shaving cream at the table. But Kate hates messes...

4. I need more Galatians 6:9 in my life. " Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Kate mentions it because she often wants to surrender from her to-do list, but proceeds on because greater things will come.

5. Kate truly believes that the kids will be best friends now and forever. Um, what? Maybe the fact that they're all so close together in age will help that, but seriously? Who truly has siblings as their best friends at any point in life after age 5??

Favorite Episodes: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Um, who didn't love 1990s Will Smith?? He was pretty cool, let's not lie. Yet another show that I never saw in original run, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air focused on West Philly teenager who moves in with his affluent Bel-Air relatives. The show really focuses on the kids' storylines instead of family storylines (like The Cosby Show), and has some awesomely funny moments. Thanks to TBS and the internet, I've made my way through every episode, and found some real jewels along the way. And, interestingly, this is one of only a few shows that had one of its best seasons on its first go-round. At least that's my opinion. :-p

Season 1: "Knowledge is Power." I seriously think this may be the funniest episode in the entire series. Will finds out that Hilary dropped out of college, and blackmails her. She tries to get Carlton on her side, but he also blackmails her. At dinner the next night, Hilary can't take the pressure of the tasks the guys have her doing, and confesses. And you should really watch this video. It's less than 4 minutes and has the best scene of the episode.

Season 2: "Will Gets a Job." Phil calls Will "Carlton" on accident a few times, and Will is afraid that he's too much like Carlton... like being a mooch. So, instead of willingly taking Phil's money to afford homecoming, he gets a job on the sly. He sneaks around and lies a bit, but when the family heads to the restaurant that Will works at, all is revealed (and Will dresses as a pirate, haha). I couldn't find a video. :(

Season 3: "Boyz in the Woods." Phil, Carlton, and Will go on a camping trip, but a series of unfortunate events catches them in a snowstorm with no shelter. They end up in a cave, burning discovered money for warmth. It turns out that they won a prize on a television show, and they walk off with the little left that Will had hidden from the others.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Season 4: "I Know Why the Caged Bird Screams." Carlton is the school mascot, the Peacock. A rival college kidnaps him and puts him in a cage inside a sorority house. Will tries to put on the costume and act in Carlton's place, but it doesn't work because the team is used to Carlton. Well I can't get the only video clip I found to buffer all the way, but maybe it'll work for you.

Season 5: "Fresh Prince, The Movie." Will and Carlton tell a crazy story about the family being put in witness protection in Alabama in order to distract Jazz during a poker game. The antics that go on in Alabama are beyond hilarious.
Part 1 Part 2

Season 6: "Not I Barbecue." Will and Carlton are hanging out with a couple of girls when things take a turn for the sexy. After the guys are down to their boxers while playing a game, one of the girl's boyfriends arrives, and the guys have to wait it out in a closet. The guy (gigantic, by the way) eventually falls asleep and the guys try to sneak out, but he wakes up. Luckily the guy is too big to get out of the window, LoL!
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 has been blocked in the US, but if you're elsewhere, you can see it by linking from Part 2.

More Minute to Win It! (and others!)

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Sunday:

Minute to Win It
(Season 1, Weeks 2 & 3): caught up, thanks to Hulu.
Week 2:
Game 3 (he was a continuation): Speed Eraser: bounce pencils into 7 half-height glasses. On his first attempt, he got one of them pretty easily, then stumbled. On his second try, he had four quickly, and made all of them with ten seconds to spare. Not sure what happened his first time... maybe it was the whole "coming back from a break" or it was just hard for him to do this one in the spotlight?
Game 4: Bucket Head: Bounce a ping pong ball off the floor, off the wall, and into a bucket on your head. 60 seconds to do TEN of them! His method was to move around to catch them, and I was stupidly going to change the trajectory of my bounces, LoL. He got frustrated and dissapointed I think, since after 4 he struggled to get to 8.
Person 2:
Game 1: This Blows: we had this one before, where you use an inflated baloon to knowck over cups by letting out the air. Her method was very different from the last person... she blew it up a LOT and went for several cups at once instead of one at a time with a little air.
Game 2: Face the Cookie: Tipping your head back, put a cookie on your forehead and use your head and face to get it in your mouth. Do it twice in a minute. She had a shaking method that allowed her to get both with 17 seconds to spare!
Game 3: Bite Me: Pick up 5 paper bags (different heights) with your mouth and place them on podiums. She had this. She finished in less than 30 seconds.
Game 4: Loner: roll a marble 15 feet to knock over a pencil. You only have to do it once, and you get 20 marbles to work with. She got it before she used 10 of them. :)
Game 5: Blind Ball: Blindfolded and spun around twice, you have to pick up two balls (volleyball size and there's four around at different heights). On her first attempt, she knocked two over but didn't get any. On her second try, she came really close to one, LoL. Try #3, she got them both. She was overjoyed, LoL.
Game 6: Keep It Up: Keep 2 feathers up (can't use your body) in the air for a minute. A minute it a long time, and her method is to blow them HARD so they get really high. But, she lost.
Then, for some reason, we bring out two guys to go head to head... in Movin' On Up: That cup thing again where you have to move all of the cups up one at a time, stopping when the red cup is at the bottom. Winner gets to start next episode.

Week 3: Okay, the guy is here (Blake). The Cup Game counted as his Round 1.
Game 2: Card Ninja: Throw playing cards at a cut watermelon. Get one to stick in there. You're about ten feet away. You only have to do it once. I thought he had an interesting way to throw. His aim wasn't the best, as he only hit the watermlon like ten times out of all those cards, LoL. But he failed. On his second try, he got it within like 20 seconds.
Game 3: Elephant March: 8 filled POM bottles in parallel rolls 8 feet apart. Put a tennis ball in a pair of pantyhose, put the pantyhose on your head, and swing it to knock down all of the bottles in sixty seconds. He never missed! He hit like every bottle on the first try!!
Game 4: Hangnails: hang six 3.5" flathead nails on a string. sounds pretty difficult, not gonna lie. But he did it on the first try, no mistakes, no sweat.
Game 4: Egg Roll: Use a pizza box as a fan, roll three eggs to another area. He rolled the first egg past the place and had to move it back. Same with the second. He had a good strategy and knew hoe he wanted to move. He finished in like 40 seconds but one rolled out, while he was running around celebrating, haha. He fixes it with less than ten seconds to go, LoL.
Game 5: Keep It Up: the feather game again. Failes on the first try, gets it on the second. His jump-and-blow tactic was interesting.
Game 6: Caddy Stack: Build a tower of three golf balls that stays standing for three seconds. He got it with like 23 seconds to spare!!
[his friends wanted him to walk with the $125k. he wanted to keep going, but he ended up leaving]
Contestant #2
Game 1: Put petroleum jelly on your nose. Move five cotton balls from one bowl to another using only your nose. The first four went okay. He had trouble shaking off his fifth since it stretched out and then flew off, but his sixth went in with just three seconds to spare.
Game 2: Bucket Head again. But he only had to get three of the balls in the bucket? I guess because this was his second game and it was the other guy (who had to do 10)'s fourth game.
Game 3: Whack Job: You have 12 attempts and you have to do it 9 times. There's a cup of water with a pie tin on it, then a toilet peper tube, then an egg. Using a broom, knock out the pie tin and the roll so the egg falls in the cup. I thought this looked hard, but he got 11 out of 12!
Game 4: Triple Pong Plop: Bounce balls onto three dinner plates and then into a fishbowl of water. Gotta get 3 in a minute.
Reveal of a million dollar game: Super Coin: Bounce a quarter 15 feet to get it into a 5-gallon water container (2" opening). He had some trouble, then got 2 in a row, then the last one fumbled him. He had to try again, and got it! Out of time, so he'll continue next time.

Sons of Tucson (S01E03): "a cop just told me he owes me one," hahaha. I love how Ron kept trying to read more and more into the cop and the "golden ticket" potential. It was only a matter of time until someone heard about what was going on. I'm surprised they didn't have a code word for the situation yet. Funny that the alpaca guy didn't know who Dr. Seuss was, LoL. I totally love the casting in this show, I hope more people start watching it soon so it keeps going!! haha, sifting through the crap!! AWESOME. The cop's gay. Perfect. Now we don't have to worry about Gabe saying anything, LoL. And to end it all, the alpacas wrecked the shed and the kid gave Ron a list of all the speed traps. HAHAHAHA.

The Simpsons
(S21E16): creepy need to hear "computer words" by Jimbo, LoL. LoL on The Gaza Strip Club and the Fiddler on the Roof. haha "who wrote the guide, the same guy who wrote the New Testament?" And "chosen people mover" haha. Funny "reading minds" joke, too. "but I thought we'd be neighbors in heaven... goofing on all the new dead people" haha. Dr. Hibbert came to Israel too? geez. What's with the Carolina Panthers push?? "peace and chicken"

Family Guy (S08E15): omg Peter threw Stewie under the car to make it look like Lois hit him, lmao. the whole thing really disturbed me.

Monday:
How I Met Your Mother: not this week.

House, M.D.: not this week.

Dancing with the Stars: last week was a fluke. I tried watching both the regular show and the elimination show this week and couldn't finish. No more.

Tuesday:
Table for 12: nope. sometimes this show is such a tease.

missing the eps "summer," "busy day," "jumping in," "brace yourself," "back to school"

19 Kids and Counting (S02E09): Jinger has a cell phone (and we saw one of the older boys use one later)... so presumably all the older kids do. It was really cute to see Justin play with Jordyn, and to take an active role in that "buddy" process that they have. Josie is expected to drink 4.5 gallons of milk a week when she gets home... I never really did the math on that before, LoL. I didn't catch anything that showed how old Josie was in this episode. :( Jana said that they've done a lot of radio shows, I guess that meant interview style? I also thought it was interesting that Jinger wasn't very comfortable answering the phone, but it seemed that Jill and Jana were handling a lot of them. Interesting there was no Josh/Anna. I am kinda losing my love for Josiah tho... he seems like the spokesperson hog that Josh is sometimes.

16 and Pregnant (E02E07): Nicole from Longwood, FL (between Altamonte Springs and Sanford, LoL). Oh good, a 15-year-old who dropped out of school is the dad. Starting in September at 17 weeks. She's not going to school at all, and she's only a sophomore. Her friends seem really intrigued at the idea that Nicole didn't use birth control at all. She's not very pretty... I'm tired of unattractive girls this season! Oh, timeout. Dad Tyler was expelled at THIRTEEN!! Certainly not a good father figure to his sisters like they're trying to portray. Paid for a birthday cake with change... not a good sign. Tyler is 16 and has no skills, how can he be upset he can't get more than $6.50/hour. Wait, a sleepover baby shower? Only for teenagers, lmao. The prank calling was funny. There are a TON of people at that baby shower!! It seems the main entertainment was to suck helium... problematic. I can't decide how I feel about them filming this kid constantly smoking cigarettes. Yes, we're seeing it's bad and that it's a problem, but c'mon now... it's the adults' job to take that away from him, not allow it! Really? They went around driving over speed bumps? LoL. They're still doing a good job at showing how painful it is. She's groaning in pain at 6 hours in, but wasn't dilated enough for an epidural until 12 hours. Why was Tyler running in and out of the delivery room once the action was starting?!? And why did twenty people go to the hospital to wait for her to be born? Baby Brookyln was born about halfway through the episode, and goes home three days after she was born. "This mom thing is all brand new to me" um, duh. I also don't understand why Tyler waited so long to re-enroll in school. And how was he so delinquent for so long? His grandma just let him sit at home and do nothing? She didn't at least make him start a lawn-mowing business or something?? She does look big for a one-month-old baby. Nicole wears a couple of rings on her ring finger, but this was never addressed... I wonder if they're engaged and they just left that out to make the story more believable (an engagement is totally NOT believable in this situation, LoL).

Wednesday:
South Park (S14E03): Cartman only goes to soccer practice on Fridays to get KFC afterwards... and he fakes a stomachache during practice so he doesn't have to actually exercise, LoL. Stan's dad abandoning the kids to try and get a medicinal marijuana prescription reference was amusing. Cartman freaking out about not getting KFC and having physical and verbal outbursts and then showing up at a methadone clinic was funny. BUT, Stan's dad takes the cake when trying to get cancer from microwaves, x-rays, cell phones, chicken nuggets, and the sun, hahahahahaha. Great hit on banning fast food from low-income areas. omg gross hoppity-hop joke. Cartman pulling a gun because the dealer cut the KFC gravy with Boston Market gravy was ridiculously funny. All those men hopping down main street was funny. Awesome Kentucky/Columbia look. Cartman sniffing strips of chicken skin was like the icing on the cake. My jaw is still open in shock over the scrotum coat.
