Photo Recapping 2013 Comic-Con: The LEGOs

Yoda, LEGO booth. by Amy K. Bredemeyer
You might have read the title and said to yourself, "she's doing a whole round-up of pictures of LEGOs? I've had enough of my five-year-old's building blocks on the living room floor, thankyouverymuch!" Well, if that's what you think of when you read the word LEGOs, you haven't lived. LEGO statues are not new in any respect, and they've been spotted around Comic-Con for years. But, I feel like I found them at every turn this year, both throughout the exhibit hall floor (and not just at the LEGO booth) as well as at the off-site events. I really wish that the beautiful displays would include information about how many blocks were in each figure, how many hours it took to build, and how many blueprints they went through to reach the masterpiece on display. Alas, I didn't see those sorts of statistics anywhere, but they're still awfully lovely to admire!

That TMNT one is definitely my favorite! I spent a couple minutes staring at it, wishing there was nobody trying to photograph it so I could get closer and really study it, LoL. There were undoubtedly more LEGO sculptures around, but you can only focus on so much over the course of five days! Perhaps next year the stars will align to permit Preview Night to work out, when a limited number of people are allowed into Exhibit Hall, making it far less crowded than the rest of the weekend!

Photo Recapping 2013 Comic-Con: The Floor

a glimpse at how crowded just a tiny portion of the floor can be. by Amy K. Bredemeyer
On Thursday night of Comic-Con I was waiting in a line and got to talking with those around me, as normally happens. Well, one of the guys was on his fourth SDCC and was going to attend his very first panel the next day. I was dumbfounded and promptly asked how he spends his days, noticing that he had a four-day badge. Turns out, he is one of those people who literally spends all day every day in Exhibit Hall, known more commonly as "on The Floor." Now, after three rounds at the annual convention myself, I would say I spend 6-8 hours perusing the booths each year. I don't get to everything, I'm not able to wait in every swag line or preview all of the shows/movies/games, and I don't wait hours for autographs. But, spending your entire Con in Exhibit Hall just sounds so exhausting to me, both mentally and physically. If you've been, you understand what I mean. If you haven't, allow me to give you a small taste of the craziness that is The Floor, starting with some film booths:

Lionsgate and Summit had a combined booth this year, and it switched up its features, including Ender's Game. by Jonathan Bredemeyer

Now, this is such a small sampling of what there was to see, but you get a little taste of the variety, from movies and television to toys and books to original art and collectibles. There were also many comic book booths, of course, but selecting one over others to display is rather difficult. Stay tuned for more Comic-Con articles and photo recaps to come, including more shots from the floor but in more compact categories!

Photo Recapping 2013 Comic-Con: The Costumes

Friday: me with Vanellope and Fix-It Felix! by Jonathan Bredemeyer
Though we did do daily wrap-ups of the excitement that is San Diego Comic-Con (follow everything here), there's still so much more to share and say! I have at least six articles in the works (ranging from recaps and quotes to advance pilot reviews and analytical nitpicks) but I wanted to share some of the fantastic photos that were captured during the event. This is the second year that TheTalkingBox has had a separate photographer at the convention, and most of the images will be credited to him, though there are some that I took with my boring phone because I was in the right place at the right time! Of course, this only reinforces the idea that one person's cosplay interest is not another's, but hopefully you'll find something you enjoy amongst the two dozen selections below! So, without further ado, let's take a look:

There were thousands of other costumes, of course, but we couldn't capture all of them, nor were all the shots that great, thanks to other people always trying to get the same picture. Plus, we've all seen stormtroopers and wookies before, so I didn't include those, although we have them! Stay tuned for more Comic-Con articles and photo recaps to come!
