You know what? This season had been doing pretty well with the hilarity, in my opinion. This episode killed that streak. It was losing my attention, not making me laugh, and I generally wanted it to end. I even said to my husband, "this episode makes me want to stop watching this show." Okay, maybe I'm blowing things out of proportion, but I really didn't like it. Maybe if there was a decent sidestory going on it could have been salvaged, but no. Maybe part of my problem with this episode was that it wasn't going anywhere as soon as we saw Munda kissing Zapp... obviously this show wasn't going to have those two end up together. Also, I don't know if it was a general error or what, but the "scenes from the next" that aired right after the episode were for THIS EPISODE. Did you see that, too, or was it just an error in my local market for whatever reason?
Futurama "Zapp Dingbat" (S07E05): The gang goes to Leela's parents' 40th anniversary party, where we see a video of their history. The couple winds up fighting because they both gave things up to be together. [...okay.] Later, Leela's mom goes out with her and winds up kissing Zapp while Leela talks to Fry and Bender. [you know, because it's such a small world and all.] Before you know it, Leela is telling her dad that he needs to move on and follow his lifelong dreams - like surfing the world's greatest sewers. [why give up that easily, Leela? Especially when you then want your parents back together anyway?] Bender and Fry go with him, as Leela spies on her mother and Zapp. [her mom is a spiteful woman! "sex with Zapp" over and over was gross.] Leela decides to invite Zapp to dinner with her and her mother, and invites him to come over two minutes before her mother is set to arrive - so she seduces him to prove that he's only after her. [not a bad plan, but maybe I missed the part in the characters' backgrounds where they're both obsessively punctual?] Zapp claims that he loves Munda, and she arrives to say the same. Zapp proposes, Munda accepts, and Leela tries to protect her mother from Zapp's womanizing ways one last time.
