2 Broke Girls: Paying a Puppet

It may not have been the best episode, but I still love this show. It was nice to avoid the petty sexual jokes that sometimes plague the plots, but I feel like we missed what could have been the best part of the episodes... don't you think seeing the "hipster trivia bar" would have been amusing? I was sad that the storyline skipped that part, though perhaps it didn't happen... the loss of $1,000 at the end of the episode indicates that the girls took the money from savings rather than sell an extra $1,000 of cupcakes. [ETA: there's a scene missing from broadcast, which CBS is calling "a bonus scene," both on their website and on their facebook page. As was pointed out to me in the comments, the girls WON the trivia contest, which is where they got the money. Take a look:

It doesn't explain the fact that the total decreased in the end, which is why I think it was removed, to make the girls struggle more. However, the run-time of the episode without that scene WAS the normal 21-22 minutes, so how would they have fit that in? Something doesn't add up. I'll look into it some more and if I come up with an answer, I'll report back.]

Nitpick aside, what did you think of utilizing Andy Dick to guest as J. Petto? I felt it was too gimmicky to really mean much and it's pretty non-canonical so it can be easily skipped over for those coming late to the series. And, besides, for someone who rather enjoys puppetry, I just wasn't too incredibly impressed.
2 Broke Girls "And the Broken Hip" (S02E17): Max designs a new flyer renaming the cupcakes after 90s stars, because hipsters are into that. [hahaha! [I'm still happy that the trend is spreading, because as much as I dislike hipsters, it seems like anyone east of the Pacific timezone really doesn't get it.] The idea is working well, but soon the sidewalk in front of the shoppe is clogged by a puppeteer and his marionette shows. [haha, "Disney owns the rights to the name Geppetto."] The girls ask him to move, but he refuses, then slips in the shoppe and lands on his puppet, Pierre. He sues Max's Homemade Cupcakes because the puppet's body was crushed, and the girls don't have insurance. In an attempt to stop the guy from taking legal action, the ladies go to the guy's house and find that the place is FILLED with puppets. [I was amazed at the marionette answering the door.]

The guy is willing to negotiate, asking $1,000 by Monday, but Max must not criticize anymore. [everyone knows THAT'S the tough part!] To raise the money, the girls bring cupcakes to a hipster trivia bar, but J. Petto wants another $500, as a psychiatrist marionette says the broken doll no longer wants to perform. [oh boy!] Caroline tries to reason with the guy while Max just steals the broken doll, then threatens to cut its strings. The puppeteer holds it together until Max rubs not one but TWO naked dolls over the marionette, then he calls off the lawsuit. And, when all is said and done, the girls still don't get insurance. [ha!]

Cupcakery Total: $3,800.

I have not seen it yet but I can tell you that if Andy Dick is in it I know I am going to be lauging. And if he plays a deranged puppeteer then I might need to bring an oxygen tank, lol. At any rate I am watching the 90’s themed episode as soon as I leave my office at DISH. And that means it is a good thing I just got a DISH Hopper! It auto records the big four network’s primetime shows and stores them for 8 days. So even when I am too busy to set recording timers, I never have to worry about missing my favorite shows.

The running total doesn't make sense. They won the $1000 at the trivia contest so why was it deducted from last weeks total?

wow. I was confused when you mentioned that they won the trivia bowl. I didn't see that scene! I went to look it up to see what you meant and found the five-minute scene on MSN: http://tv.msn.com/video/tv/?g=21c5c74f-6ee5-4d61-86ac-b98d26ab8f6e

I then had to look up where this scene was within the episode and learned it must have been after the ladies agree to pay Andy and before they actually do... those scenes ran one after the other for me!

and, I'm as stumped as you... if they won, why DID the savings decrease?? I'm thinking that the scene was cut later, which is why it didn't air for some people, and why the total was brought down. Instead, we don't see where the girls get the money.

Did anyone else think the Pierre puppet looked like the silent film star, Buster Keaton?
