Season Finale: Big Bang: Changes

I'm gonna go ahead and say it... I don't know how this series will play out for three more seasons. I don't feel like the situations the characters come into are as "everyman" as Friends or Seinfeld, but there's no big gimmick to be revealed like on How I Met Your Mother, either. The close dynamic of Frasier and Happy Days isn't there, and it's not "workplace" enough to work like Cheers or M*A*S*H. But, Two and a Half Men manages to keep finding things to write about, so I suppose there's still humor to be found. One thing is for sure, though... they better find a way to write-in a multiple-part episode with the guys ACTUALLY AT COMIC-CON!

The Big Bang Theory "The Status Quo Combustion" (S07E24): Leonard and Penny share their proposal news with their friends, then their parents, but Leonard's mother already knew, courtesy of Sheldon. [ugh.] Leonard talks to Sheldon about not living together anymore, so he rants to Amy, who suggests that they live together. [basing the wedding on Penny's brother's schedule, it will be 12-18 months from now... good to know.]

Sheldon finds out that he can't change his field of study at the University, as he was hired to do String Theory. He appeals to the faculty senate, but things just start turning sour in every area of his life... and after the comic book store burns down, he heads to the train station, with the intent to ride the rails. [seriously?]
CBS
Amy is pissed that Leonard and Penny let Sheldon leave. [understandably.]

Howard's mom has gone through multiple nurses, and when Penny can't handle the job (at carte blanche), Howard and Bernadette worry that they may end up stuck caring for her... until they realize that Stuart is happy to be Debbie's caretaker, and they take to each other well. [did we previously know Howard's mom's name?]

In other news, Raj has sex with Emily.

Adding on an Old Show...

We try out so many new pilots each season that some series fall through the cracks and are not discovered until later. For instance, longtime readers know that we didn't begin covering The Big Bang Theory until the start of the sixth season, Two and a Half Men until the ninth season, and The Middle in the third season (after dabbling throughout the prior year, starting with the second episode of the second season). Since May and the end of the past network season, I have tried a bunch of in-progress shows, ranging from Parks and Recreation to Psych. Only one has stuck, and I have absolutely fallen in love with it!

USA's White Collar.
Eric Ogden/USA Network
It all started one night over the summer when my husband and I had no plans. Neither of us wanted to watch an episode of the shows we were currently Netflixing (like the new season of Arrested Development), and we were in search of a new drama (having just wrapped Friday Night Lights), so we went through the "recommended" series. White Collar was the only one we came across in ten minutes that neither of us objected to, so we tried it out. I was instantly hooked with the Catch Me If You Can similarity, and Matt Bomer being easy on the eyes didn't hurt. Peter and Mozzie's characters also seemed very intriguing, and before you knew it, we were on the third season, binge-watching a few episodes each evening. I actually really started loving the show after the Kate storyline was wrapped and the focus of the drama was so straightforward. Yes, it is a bit of a procedural, with a crime-of-the-week premise, but the crimes are fascinating to me! Similarly, I think that the ongoing arcs have had great writing and skillful acting, and that's why I keep going back for me.

So, surprise! When White Collar returns on Thursday, October 17th at 9pm, we'll be watching. Look for our first recap with remarks on the 18th!

19 Kids and Counting: 5 and 29 Years, Respectively

Not everyone celebrates their anniversary ON their anniversary, but acting as if JimBob and Josh (who have July and September weddings, respectively) were celebrating at the same time was a little odd. If Marcus was two months old, that would suggest it's the beginning of August for the younger generation, but there were no other obvious clues as to when JimBob and Michelle were celebrating. However, the hot air ballooning idea was pretty neat... I've been looking for a fun way to celebrate my upcoming 30th birthday, and doing a hot air balloon trip up in Napa might just be the ticket!

Another note... there was an advertisement for Two and a Half Men on TLC, during 19 Kids and Counting. This makes me upset, as I feel like I can usually count on this programming block to be positive and safe for the entire family, which Two and a Half Men is not.

19 Kids and Counting "Anniversaries to Remember" (S07E17): Josh and Anna are celebrating 5 years of marriage, and Jana and JoyAnna head to Washington, DC to help Josh with a surprise. [they know how to pack better than that! and what was with the guest bunk beds?] Josh asks his sisters to take Anna for the day so he can do something with the kids, so the ladies go for a manicure in Old Town Alexandria. [why did they bring a suitcase of baby girl clothes if Marcus is only two months old??] Josh spends some time getting different individual and group shots of his three children. [haha, Jana and Joy picked out the outfit options for Josh.] Then, Josh and Anna go for a fancy dinner at Bond 45, and both get the New York Strip steak. [what pin was Josh wearing?]
facebook.com/19KidsandCounting
Meanwhile, in Arkansas, Michelle and JimBob celebrate 29 years of marriage, and JimBob asks the kids to help with some surprises. JimBob tells Michelle what to pack for an overnight trip, and Josiah chauffeurs them to Terra Studios to enjoy some outdoor art and try to make some glass art. [I hate how JimBob always thinks something will be easy until he tries it!] The other kids meet them at the War Eagle Mill, where they assist in preparing the restaurant's specialty: beans and cornbread, which Michelle loves. [it would have been cuter if that was a meaningful meal for them for some reason.] The couple heads to a motel for the night, and JimBob tries to barter the price. They get up early the next day and head to ride in a hot air balloon, even though Michelle is afraid of heights. [that's another pet peeve of mine... JimBob always trying to force his family into doing things that are outside of their comfort zones.]

There was also an "Anniversary Game" segment with the girls and guys answering questions. For the classic Duggars, we learn that their first date was to a restaurant, where Michelle wore a pink formal gown and realized that JimBob was the man for her. [because we saw a lot of Josh and Anna's relationship on the show, I wasn't as interested in their responses.] Michelle is asked what JimBob does to let her know he's in the mood, and she says he raises his eyebrows. He says he goes "hey! hey! hey." [won't do either now, haha!] When Josh is in the mood, he cleans the bedroom and turns down the sheets. [this also made me laugh.] JimBob uses three cans of hairspray each month and dated Michelle for seven months before getting engaged. [haha, Anna leans in for a kiss and Josh doesn't go for it. Michelle thinks of JimBob's motto as "Buy Used and Save the Difference," but he says it is "Be Fruitful and Multiply." [amusing that he chose that one over Michelle's pick...]

Two and a Half Men: A Proposal & the Aftermath

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

This season of Two and a Half Men doesn't look all that promising. In fact, Jon Cryer is the only reason to watch this show anymore, what with Charlie dead, Rose MIA, Jake off to boot camp, and Evelyn not getting air time. Don't get me wrong, Jon Cryer is awesome - he just won the Emmy for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, after all - but that's just not enough. I was a bit wary on continuing to cover this show as last season dragged on, but now I know that I'm over it. So, this is likely the final recap you'll see about Two and a Half Men, unless I write about it in a holiday roundup or something. The two episodes below aren't amazing, they're just... there. Walden proposes to Zoey, she says "no," and he becomes depressed about it. Oh, and we see Jake (who seems to have caused a jeep accident) Skype with Alan. I did like the change in the theme song to include Jake's new look (fatigues), but otherwise this seems like a boring continuation of last season's shallow jokes and weak shenanigans.

Two and a Half Men "I Changed my Mind about the Milk" (S10E01): Walden proposes to Zoey on her birthday, but she bursts into tears and runs out of the restaurant, saying that she can't. ["wearing my pen!s down to the nub" was awful! oh, rich people.... fireworks at the click of a button. and who is the guitarist?]

Meanwhile, Alan panics about where he'll live when Zoey moves in, and all Evelyn has to say is that if he becomes homeless, to try to pick a street in Beverly Hills so she can visit. [haha!] When Walden comes home drunk (thanks to Michael Bolton), Alan drives him to Zoey's so he can find out why she won't marry him... turns out, there's someone else (Dick) from her past. ["why didn't you just shack up with my loser friend?" hahaha.] Alan tries to comfort Walden, who considers becoming partners with Alan, up until a pre-nup is mentioned. [odd.] A woman shows up at the bar and distracts Walden, they get high, and she resembles Zoey enough that he sleeps with her. [um, ok, whatever.]

Two and a Half Men "A Big Bag of Dog" (S10E02): Zoey is already showering with another man, so Walden is put on edge, especially because he'd like to go to Ava's birthday party but doesn't want to be awkward. Walden asks Alan to park his car on the street from now on, because it's leaking something. But, after Alan finds parking under a bridge and birds get to it, he complains and Walden agrees to wash, detail, and put oil in it. [what? how did that work out??] Then, Walden gets upset at a ketchup bottle and spills it on Alan, which causes Alan to answer the door in his underwear because Walden made him take off his clothes for washing. [again, odd. I thought it was funny that Berta was willing to let Alan back into the house until she heard that he didn't have clothes on!] But, Alan isn't the only one on whom Walden is taking out his aggression... Billy says that he had sex with Walden's ex-wife, so Walden freaks out on him at the office before locking himself in his bedroom for days while he builds a dream house of Legos.

Alan gets Walden a box of teeth whitener and Walden says to put it in "the Zoey room," which is the bathroom plastered with photos of the Londoner. [holy moly!] Alan decides to ask Robin, Billy, and Berta to stage an intervention, but Walden apologizes, throws away the Legos and photos, and proceeds to freak out over a barking dog on the beach. It's a Great Dane who promptly tears apart the living room, so Walden decides to gift him to Ava, angering Zoey. [meh.]

Fun Friday: Where We Left Off...

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

We've been treated to quite a few pilots already in the new television season, but "the good stuff" is just starting to return. So, I figured that you might appreciate a little recap of where we left off with some great series last Spring...

2 Broke Girls left off with Caroline and Max meeting Martha Stewart in a bathroom, Chestnut returning to the the girls' backyard, Max learning that Johnny is engaged, and Sophie being quite charitable to the girls and their business. Also, Sophie and Oleg are friends with benefits.

Cake Boss revealed that Buddy's mother was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease, which is taking quite a toll on the family. It was around Easter when the show went on hiatus, so expect some 4th of July cakes and maybe some summer wedding extravagance as well.

How I Met Your Mother
is a big one. The seventh season ended with Lily going into labor while Marshall and Barney party in Atlantic City. In a ridiculous turn of events, the duo get a bus re-routed to make to Lily in time for Marvin Waitforit Erickson to make his appearance. But that's just the beginning... Victoria walked out on her wedding to see Ted "one last time," and it's revealed that Robin the the bride at Barney's wedding - though Barney was planning to propose to Quinn in Hawaii.

Last Man Standing may not actually be back until November, but here's a recap for you just the same... Kristin and Kyle broke up, Mike's father lives in town, Vanessa's sister lives in the Baxter guest room, and Mike bought a tank. Also, be aware that there are a few changes - Boyd will age three years and be in kindergarten, Kristin has been re-cast, and Eve will be in high school.

South Park last aired in late April, so Stone and Parker have some great things they can work with from the news and pop culture lately. And the Olympics, of course. In the event they want to carry over old events, though, we do have new-girl Nichole, whom Kyle liked.

Suburgatory closed with a Mother's Day episode in which Tessa sees her long-estranged maternal grandmother, so it's very likely that she'll be making another appearance. Eden is close to giving birth, Lisa found out that her brother was adopted, and Dallas wants to change the relationship she has with Dalia.

The Middle featured Mike's brother, Rusty, having a shotgun wedding of sorts, Axl and his friends starting an odd-jobs business, and Sue going to Prom with a friend of her older brother. Plus, with the library closing, Brick will have to come up a new favorite spot, and the old librarian being Aunt Edie's new companion will certainly change a few things as well.

The Simpsons featured Lady Gaga cheering up Lisa in the final episode last season. Other than that, it's pretty much crazy-scenario-that-will-reset-anyway over there, with the exception of Edna and Ned, who are learning to co-parent when she pulls Rod and Todd out of their Christian school.

Two and a Half Men left us with Jake and Eldridge joining the army, having no other post-high-school plans. Plus, everyone hates Alan right now, as he milked his friends and family by pretending that an injury lasted much longer than it really did. Oh, and Zoey and Walden are still together.

...and, a bonus! We're now going to be recapping The Big Bang Theory, as I fell in love with it late last Spring and am now addicted to the popular CBS sitcom. When we last saw our science-loving group, Howard married Bernadette and then blasted off into space, Sheldon held Amy's hand, and Penny rejected Leonard's marriage proposal.

Fun Friday with the Kevin Bacon Game!

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

I don't remember the first time I heard about "The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon." I don't even remember which of Kevin Bacon's movies I saw first! But, yesterday I found out something cool you can do with Google and I wanted to share.

First, a little explanation for the unaware... Kevin Bacon (who is starring in The Following starting mid-season, by the way) has been in tons of movies with a wide variety of stars. Years ago, a party game developed where someone would name an actor and people would try and "link" that person to Kevin Bacon by figuring out movies that Kevin Bacon had been in with someone else who had been in something with a third person who had been in something with the named person. You wanted to not only link the actor to Mr. Bacon but also try to be the one with the shortest number of links needed to do so. I'm pretty bad at the game, but it's also gotten much easier over time.

Well, Google has set it up so all you have to do is type the name of an actor and "bacon number" (you don't even need the quotation marks) and the first thing you'll see on the results page is the chain linking Kevin Bacon to that person. It's fun to mess around with, and I encourage you to give it a go! Here are some examples with actors known for their television work (which makes them slightly "more difficult" for the game)...

I seriously tried like fifty people and I never came up with a Bacon Number higher than three, and only one occasion of that! So, please, if you find one that's three or higher, do share!

Two and a Half Men: Jake's Future

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Did you even realize it was time for the season finale of Two and a Half Men? Because, although I was looking forward to it, I had forgotten. It seems that the writers may have as well, as they pull out a Jake storyline after ignoring him for most of the year. He and Eldridge graduate from high school with no future plans. Alan suckers Walden's partner into giving them a job, but, of course, they foul things up in a matter of hours. They're threatened to get jobs immediately, but rather than try for something in the food court, they're quickly roped into joining the army, as they want to fly remote-controlled planes and whatnot like in the video games. Nobody is really thrilled, and some characters are downright scared for the future of the country, but at least we didn't have to deal with another Zoey-hates-Alan storyline. When this show returns in the fall, I will tune in, but if they're largely writing off Jake, I'll be the first one to switch the channel and never look back.

Two and a Half Men "Oh Look Al-Qaeda!" (S09E24): Alan tells Jake to get his life together. ["I will if you will." hahaha] It's clear that Jake still doesn't pay much attention in school, as he believes that "Harvard" is the capital of Connecticut. [a better joke than many they give poor Jake. His exchange with Eldridge - "I don't know why I hang out with you." "You're gay." "What does that make you?" "Attractive." was a little off, though.]

Judith and Lyndsey pressure Alan into asking Walden about giving jobs to Jake and Eldridge, but Walden knows better. His partner, however, isn't the most trusting of Walden at this point (after all, who pays $480 to remove the adjustable feature from an office chair?), so he'll let the boys work for them. [love how Alan only passed on $50 to Jake of the $100 from Walden!] The boys have a simple job to do, but when they start downloading p0rn, a virus hits the servers and disaster strikes, activating a Halon system of sorts.
Photo: Richard Cartwright/CBS
They're fired and have to find new jobs... they talk about starting a company of making food on sticks when they're greeted by a military recruiter. The boys then announce that they've joined the army, leading Alan to hunt down the recruiter and explain that Jake shouldn't be allowed near weapons. [haha!] The episode ends with the boys going through boot camp, completely unaware of how long it'll be before they're doing "the fun stuff."

Two and a Half Men: Alan's Special Treatment

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

What was with all of Walden's stupid family stories? I am SO HAPPY that there is only one more episode this season, as I'm dropping this show like a hot potato! Even the most unrealistic parts of this episode - like Berta not calling Alan "Zippy" and Evelyn taking Alan to his doctor's appointment - failed to get a laugh from me. Walden dropping everything to make things easier on Alan got annoying a week or two ago, so the fact that he put in a chair to help the disabled maneuver the staircase was just too much to bear. And Judith and Lyndsey were being so nice that I was completely expecting to find out that Alan was dreaming again... nope. We can't be that lucky. Somehow, we're expected to believe that Judith would stop requiring child support payments from Alan AND offer him her condo in Palm Springs?? I don't think so. I'll bite that Evelyn bought Alan a cowboy outfit. I'd even believe that she'd cave and get him a horse. But most of the other characters' reactions to Alan? No way, Jose.
Photo: Darren Michaels/Warner Bros.
Two and a Half Men "The Straw in my Donut Hole" (S09E23): Alan comes home from the hospital and immediately faints when he sees his family there to surprise him. Walden has gotten him a new bed and plasma television, complete with the sports package - so, of course, Alan also asks for the movie and adult channels. [I can't believe how bratty that guy is sometimes!] Lyndsey comes over and pleasures Alan while he eats warm peach cobbler from Berta. [gross.] At Alan's checkup, he's given a clean bill of health, but he doesn't want to stop receiving the royal treatment from everyone, as even Evelyn has bought him a cowboy outfit. Zoey doesn't believe Alan is ill, so has a private investigator follow him for a few days. Meanwhile, Alan uses Walden's whirlpool and takes advantage of a masseuse offer. Then, Zoey has everyone over to confront Alan, showing him a recording of him playing volleyball. [no sand stuck to any of them? really? what sort of fake Hollywood sand is this?] Alan fakes another heart attack, but it doesn't work and he's left on the floor as everyone goes about their business.[please join me in just sitting here, shaking your head.]

Two and a Half Men: Charlie's Back, as a Ghost

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Why isn't Charlie's ghost in khaki shorts? That's my biggest complaint of the episode. You know, aside from my usual NOTHING EVER HAPPENS. Here, we had Zoey trying to keep Alan out of the house and Alan coming up with a ridiculous scheme to keep the status quo. Things were slightly complicated by the fact that Alan was trying to move back, a mild heart attack, and the ghost of Charlie messing with his brother, but it was still the same basic junk. Now that the main three actors (which counts Jake, though I wouldn't) have come close to signing for a potential tenth season, I'm officially saying it - I'm out. Two episodes to go so I'll finish up this season, but if the show is renewed, you'll have to find another site to read about it.

Two and a Half Men "Why We Gave Up Women" (S09E22): Zoey thinks things are going well, so Walden keeps quiet about not wanting Ava around. So, when Alan shows up with his luggage, Walden has to tell him to come back later, but Alan has a heart attack. [Walden thinking that he was faking was funny.] Walden is willing to pay for the expenses, but he has to check the "domestic partner" box on the forms. [this probably should have come off funnier than it was.] It's the real thing, too, and Alan needs to have a little less stress in his life for a while. [shame on Zoey for thinking he's faking!] Alan hears Jake talk about getting in trouble at school for having pot in his locker, then learns that Lyndsey doesn't want to care for him. Later, he sees
Entertainment/Darren Michaels
Charlie's ghost, not recognizing him at first in his new form. You know, because, in hell, it's "eternal damnation" to have to parade around in another body. "Charlie" tells Alan to stop being a parasite and get his own place if he wants to turn his life around. So, when he gets out of the hospital, Alan stops by the beach house to give Walden his forwarding address, then heads to a new, very small, very rundown place without a kitchen. "Charlie" reappears to Alan, saying that he just wanted him out of his house, at long last. [sadly, I thought that was the best joke of the episode. for a comedy. shame.] So, Alan decides to go back to Walden's, where he fakes a heart attack, and, because Walden doesn't want Alan's death on his conscience, he'll be welcomed back to Malibu once again.

Two and a Half Men: Together Again

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Were you worried that Alan might actually have to move out of the Malibu beach house? While it certainly looked that way and he had to leave for a few days, he managed to find his way back home, without even begging to! With Zoey back in the country, Walden and Zoey try a week of living together with Ava, which wears out Walden pretty quickly. Having been banished from the beach house, Alan tries a week with Lyndsey, only to find himself constantly getting injured and always doing chores. Both prefer their previous arrangement and agree that they must find a way to make it work again. The concept I saw coming, the details notsomuch. I'm unclear why we had to force Alan through so much misery, how Jake got away with the drugs without a lecture, and how Berta thought she'd con Walden out of a sports car, but the show is still kickin'...

Two and a Half Men "Mr. Hose Says 'Yes'" (S09E21): After telling Alan that he'll need to find a place to live for a week while he has a trial run with Zoey and Ava, Walden tells Berta about the change in occupants. [as he should.] When she hears that Ava is 7, Berta declares that she'll be taking the week off. Walden doesn't think it'll be a big deal to watch a kid, but Berta reminds him that Jake was that age once. She asks for a Camaro and a retirement plan, but he threatens to find another housekeeper, so they give up bargaining. Things are going well until Walden has to watch Ava on his own for an hour... after she plays with her dolls and then needs him to have a tea party, have a dance party, act like a horsey, do sock puppets, play hide-and-seek, bake, play SuperGirl, and fingerpaint, he's absolutely tuckered out. [if Zoey was really only gone for an hour, Walden didn't play these things correctly, LoL.] So, when he learns that putting her to bed requires reading a story, checking under the bed for monsters, and getting her some water, he's beginning to lose patience. [eh. it happens.] The deal is sealed, however, when Ava wakes up early the next day and wants Eggs Benedict for breakfast, only to change her mind several times when he doesn't make meals "right." [haha, kids!]

With Eldridge and Jake at with their other parents for the week, Lyndsey has Alan stay with her. While he hopes that he'll be getting lucky all week, she makes him complete chores that she's been putting off, though he soon electrocutes himself in the process. [a penny in the fusebox? really??] Jake (only around to find some stashed weed) accidentally whacks Alan in the face with a door, breaking his nose. [so cliche, too!] Alan injures himself further when Lyndsey unzips his pants and catches his genitalia. [ahhhh!] And, when Lyndsey smells something dead and suspects a opossum under the house, Alan scurries under there, only to have an opossum scratch him badly. [I don't care how much time or money you want to save... this is ridiculous!]

Walden and Alan meet at the bar and agree to go back to their previous living arrangement. [but Walden and Zoey both kinda agreed that, if this doesn't work out, they're through... will that be the case?]

Two and a Half Men: Should Alan be Worried?

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Did we really need that much recap from recent episodes? I think they gave us more background than necessary for this episode. Especially because, once again, not much happened. Zoey gets back from London, fights with Walden, and might move into the Malibu beach house. Alan's mother is still "seeing" the mother of his girlfriend, and he may get booted from his "home." Now, the main hinge here is that Alan thinks he needs to be worried about Evelyn and Jean (and what that will do to his own relationship with Lyndsey), but what he really needs to worry about it the possibility that he'll need to find a new place to live - Zoey told Walden TWICE in this episode that Alan's got to go. He's not going to want to live at Evelyn's with Jean there, so he might resort to giving Lyndsey's another go... but as soon as Evelyn dumps Jean, that could go sour, too. Maybe it's time to actually see Alan figure out how to live on his own? And, how quickly will this play out... the season is winding down!

Two and a Half Men "Grandma's Pie" (S09E20): Zoey is on her way back from three weeks in London and wants Alan out of Walden's house. Walden has a more pressing problem, however... he's working with Bridget again (on the electric suitcase idea) and hasn't told Zoey. He shared the news just after sex, trying to compare his seeing Bridget for business with Zoey seeing her ex-husband for their daughter. [which, actually, isn't the worst analogy in the world.] Walden tries to bring the girls together by having them over for (a Berta-made) dinner. It's not going great but things go downhill quickly when Bridget implies that Zoey is after Walden for his money. [I hadn't considered this... I guess it's a possibility.] Walden "fixes" the problem by inviting Zoey to live with him... which would also mean Alan needs to move out. Yes, Walden has gifted Alan 100 shares of Founder's Stock, but that's not quite the same... [Alan repeatedly getting chills when his living situation is discussed elsewhere was funny... reminded me of Daphne's headaches when Lilith was in town on Frasier.]
Photo: Monty Brinton/CBS
Speaking of Alan, he's busy dealing with the fact that Evelyn and Jean are now a couple. [I still don't really understand that one.] Lyndsey feels that Evelyn is taking advantage of her mother. [yeah... this is the first time I've seen her name spelled like that (it was in Lorre's end page), so my apologies for the misspelling everyplace before here.] Jean and Evelyn get matching tattoos and Jean is planning to move in with Evelyn. The women have dinner with Alan and Lyndsey, Jake and Eldridge, but the younger boys never catch on to their grandmothers' relationship. [nobody ever claimed they picked up on things!]

Two and a Half Men: An Evelyn & Jake Episode

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Have the writers just decided that Angus T. Jones is a horrible actor and that's why he's relegated to junky lines these days? He finally gets a decent-sized part in an episode and it's so slow-paced and boring that I almost don't want to see more of him! We also get treated to a moderate dose of Evelyn, which wasn't disappointing... it just wasn't aces, either. The idea of Alan's mom and Lindsay's mom "enjoying one another" was something that I hadn't planned on, but I think it could make for a funny few stories... if they keep Jean's character around. We know Zoey's going to return soon, so a nice Berta storyline before the season finale might not happen... especially because the comedy has not been renewed, and they may only have a couple of episodes to wrap up things. Plus, word around the internet says that the ghost of Charlie will come into play, so I guess anything is game!

Two and a Half Men "Palmdale, Ech" (S09E19): Alan and Lindsay head to see her mother, Jean, and Lindsay isn't thrilled about it. [Lindsay's mom is the same actress who played Amy's mom on Everybody Loves Raymond... I found this amusing. there were some funny Eldridge jokes, too.] Jean swipes clothes from the dead folks in her building. [oh.my.goodness. whaaaa???!?] She then brings up that Lindsay did a p0rn0. So, Alan and Lindsay decide to put her mom and Evelyn in the same room, as they'll either kill one another or hit it off. [sounds worth trying!] The next night, the four go to dinner, with Evelyn unaware of the situation until they're en route. The women hit it off so well that Jean and Evelyn decide to go dancing afterward, agreeing that they'll find their own way back to Lindsay's later. [I'm a little shocked that it went so well... but I guess it brought something different to the show... there's always tons of fighting, LoL.] The next morning, Evelyn and Jean hug and kiss in front of Alan and Lindsay. [can't wait for some feedback on this one!]

Jake and Eldridge tell Walden that they stay happy by getting stoned, then invite him to play video games. Jake asks him how serious things are with Zoey, but no answer is really given. With Jake and Eldridge set to graduate soon (apparently Jake is repeating his senior year?), they want to work for Walden, coming up with app ideas. [confusing "demographic" for "democratic" was funny.] The pitch a couple to Walden, including "JunkShop," which would allow you to enlarge and customize photos of your "junk" to send to girls, and another to time how long you can hold your breath underwater. [teenage boys! who have no idea what the "stopwatch" feature is. sad.] The next night, there's a party in the valley and Walden offers to drive the boys. [again, he has nothing better to do with Zoey still in London.] The guys write down Amy Lane as the address, when that's really the name of the girl having the party. [though it's also an address. yay for my name!] They go to the wrong house and end up just heading to a diner. They see some girls they know, but rather than simply ask them where the party is, they want to text them, but they don't have the girls' numbers. Walden has to give them the idea to try and mac on those girls. [we don't know how it goes, but I can't assume they did all that well...]

Two and a Half Men: Walden's Friend's Idea

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

This may be the quickest that a character has ever uttered the name of the episode! And, as per the usual, it's not related to the bulk of the plotlines. No Zoey, Lindsay, Evelyn, or Jake, though we do see a little of Berta. the episode is primarily Walden and Alan, with a guest star as Walden's friend and a shot or two of Bridget. Overall, the episode continues to demonstrate just how low Two and a Half Men has sunk. I'm glad there are only a few episodes remaining... and I kinda hope that Ashton Kutcher isn't able to come to terms with CBS... let's just put this show out of its misery.

Two and a Half Men "The War Against Gingivitis" (S09E18): Bridget skypes Walden to tell him that his friend, Billy, called with a business proposition. But, something went wrong in the past and Walden wants nothing to do with Billy. [Alan dropping tons of glasses and dishes was funny.] Alan asks Walden who Billy is, and Walden says that Billy didn't want to sell the company and went crazy... there are internet videos of him calling Walden a pretty boy, a sell-out, and a giant d0uche. So, when Billy comes to the house, Alan acts as a barrier... right up until the words "billion dollar" are mentioned. Then, he lets him in with open arms to find out more. Well, "web-based aggregate upstream power grid manipulation" means nothing to Alan, but a $50 bribe definitely gets him to bring Walden downstairs. [I laughed when Alan realized that he should have held out for more moolah.] When Billy finally apologizes to Walden, they figure out how to divide the work for the new idea, which is nicknamed "the electric suitcase." Alan wants in, so he volunteers to bake cookies and run errands. [hahahahaha. leave it to Alan.] What does this do, however?
Photo: Sonja Flemming/CB
It leads Alan to realize that the closest thing he has to a friend is Berta. So, while Walden and Billy compete to see who can go the longest without urinating (hence the picture with the guys chugging Red Bulls), Alan shows up at Berta's, wanting to do something. [once again, Walden is the most immature guy EVER.] Berta asks Alan to run an errand... bringing an envelope of money to a guy. But, Berta owes more than she sends with Alan, so his car is shot was he speeds away. [omg!!!] The episode ends with Billy admitting to Walden that he's been sleeping with Bridget, but they power through and finish the "electric suitcase," which is able to take out all of the power in North America.

Fun facts
: Alan's passwords are Jake, Jake1, Jake2, Alan, Alan1, BigScaryLady. His "favorite state" isn't something like Hawaii or California, it's "engorged." [whoa.] And, lastly, Alan keeps THREE types of dental floss in his POCKET. [double whoa!]

Two and a Half Men: Love and Vomit

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

In a sentence: Walden and Zoey each say "I love you," and Lindsay vomits everywhere from being drunk. I'm not going to dignify this episode by giving it anymore thought than I need to. It was horrific.

Two and a Half Men "Not in My Mouth" (S09E17): Zoey and Walden are on his plane and hit a patch of turbulence. Walden tells Zoey that he loves her - twice... she doesn't reciprocate. So, Walden asks Alan and Zoey what they think of the situation at his earliest convenience. They don't have much to say, though Alan later tells him that some women struggle to say "I love you," so just be patient. [this vomiting situation is disgusting.] When Walden goes to say goodbye to Zoey before she leaves for a few weeks of business in London, he confronts her about the love thing, but she says that they need to wait until she gets back. [reasonable. though it would be more reasonable if you weren't talking to a man who could just meet you there and stay for the duration of your trip...] He leaves, picking up a pretty girl in the elevator. Alan confronts him about his behavior, but he's interrupted when Zoey calls from the tarmac. She's afraid that something bad will happen if she says "I love you," because she's only said it twice before, once to Russell Brand and the other to her ex-husband. [daaaaang.] Unfortunately, Zoey is able to hear (and possibly see, since they're always using the video-phone feature) the girl, so she gets upset and hangs up. [rightfully so!]

Walden wants to fly to London to apologize, bringing along Alan as a witness that nothing happened with the girl. Lindsay comes along too, since she and Alan had a date scheduled. [impromptu free trip? heck yeah!] Lindsay gets drunk again (oh, yeah, she vomited all over Alan's bathroom earlier from her binging escapades the night before) and vomits ON ALAN, ON WALDEN, and ALL OVER THE PLANE! [this is the most disgusting thing ever. ever. ever. ever.] In London, Zoey admits that she loves Walden, but she's worried that he'll just go on a rampage every time they have a fight. [half-sensible.]

Since they left in such a hurry, the girl is still at the house, so Jake hits on her. He manages to wind up having sex with her FIVE TIMES in half an hour. Oh, and earlier in the episode Jake was hitting up Alan for $75 to buy a video game... he must have been pretty desperate because he was even willing to clean the nasty vomit bathroom for the moolah!

Two and a Half Men: Weathering a Storm

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Guys, this show sucks. I've been complaining about the stupid storylines and the fact that they do nothing with the hilariously-built secondary characters, but I'm serious now. This episode was actually halfway funny and it was STILL bad. A lot of that is due to the fact that so many of the jokes were stolen from other sitcoms through the years, but still. Lindsay and Zoey going at one another because of their differences in cultural mindset could have made for the best episode all season... but no. Alan and Walden heading out in torrential rain to buy tampons and ice cream could have resulted in some knee-slapping moments, but instead we're supposed to believe that Alan would cling for life and still take phone calls. Plus, that plotline was left open, so we'll just have to assume that they made it back okay... somehow. We're two-thirds of the way through the season, Ashton Kutcher has yet to sign on for more episodes, but the ratings aren't half-bad... I just want the show to end, though. Who's with me?

Two and a Half Men "Sips, Sonnets and Sodomy" (S09E16): Alan and Lindsay are spending a quiet evening at home (with Alan rubbing Lindsay's feet) when Walden and Zoey return from the opera. Lindsay complains about fat people singing in a foreign language, and Zoey accidentally offends Lindsay by talking about opera being a refines taste. [just noticed the opening now morphs Walden's face into the new, shaven look. freaky.] Then, Zoey complains to Walden about Lindsay, and Lindsay complains to Alan about Zoey. [those feces jokes were disgusting! Alan being turned on was even worse!] The ladies end up moaning loudly in the guys' respective bedrooms in an attempt to make the other one jealous. [c'mon, guys. really?] The next day is Valentine's Day, and Walden admits to Alan that Zoey's moans were faked... but Alan says that it was the best sex of his life. [haha... a little.] The ladies talk about the different things they're doing for the holiday. [I laughed at "or they could fly down on her private broom."] Unfortunately, nobody is going anywhere because a sinkhole has opened up outside the house. The girls are soon ready to go at one another's throats, and it only gets worse when the power goes out. Lindsay needs tampons and sends Alan out... and since Zoey is pissed, Walden goes with him. [really? even in that dangerous weather?] The girls actually eventually have some wine and talk about their exes, learning to co-exist to a certain extent. Meanwhile, a Walden has to save Alan from a mudslide. Alan, of course, isn't all that terrified, as he takes a phone call from Lindsay while nearly drowning... the woman wants ice cream. [shaking my head, guys.] This ends the episode. [seriously??!?]

Two and a Half Men: More Walden & Zoey Issues

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

What's going to become of this show after this season? Ashton Kutcher hasn't yet signed on for another round of this. It's highly rumored that he'll be wanting even more money if he's going to keep playing Walden Schmidt. The show is still doing well, but it's a different audience. Many fans left when Charlie Sheen was kicked off the comedy. Many more have dropped the series since very little has happened since Walden became the main character. I've complained multiple times over the past season about the lack of attention now paid to secondary characters (and they've more or less written off Jake to be a pothead), and how nothing ever happen to push the plot forward. Well, something finally happened, but the episode still wasn't all that good. I feel like I'm too attached to give the show up completely, but I might drop it from TheTalkingBox after this season - something's gotta change.

Two and a Half Men "The Duchess of Dull-in-Sack" (S09E15): Zoey wakes up with Walden only sends him packing so that her daughter doesn't find him. [dumb erection jokes. the "port of entry" joke was even worse. but I liked Zoey's nightgown.] We get a ridiculous "quick, hide!" series of situations before Walden goes home to Alan. Apparently, the sex isn't great, and Walden's losing his patience. But when he tries to broach the topic with Zoey, she says that she's uncomfortable talking about it. [it's a good rule of thumb that if you're not mature enough to talk about it, you're not mature enough to do it. moving on... also, why are they skyping in the middle of the day? big laugh on the pool boy joke, tho. and "carnal interludes"] An eavesdropping Berta suggests that Walden bring Zoey some pot brownies to help things along, but he hesitates to give one to her. But, after she hilariously tries some dirty talk, he busts out the goods. Problematically, Zoey turns out to be the type who get super paranoid when high. [loved that pink nightgown, too.] Walden goes looking for her, but gets sidetracked by pizza with Eldridge and Jake (who are also stoned, which is now their normal state of being, apparently).
Photo: Monty Brinton/CBS
Walden offers them $100 if they can find Zoey, which ends up being a disastrous decision, as they keep bringing any non-white girl they can find back to the house. (hence Alan and Walden both pretending that the other was looking for "Zoey" in the photo to the right.) [I'm sitting here just shaking my head, by the way.] While under the influence, Zoey confides in Alan that she has a difficult time with sex if she doesn't trust the man completely. [this has the potential to be a big deal... but it fizzles almost immediately.]

The next day, Walden walks Zoey back to her apartment. [why? are we to believe that she's not well enough to drive herself at this point?] Zoey's ex-husband is there, as he has to take off on an unexpected business trip and is unable to watch their daughter for the rest of the weekend. Walden plays with the daughter while the parents argue. In a fun fact, apparently Nigel is 107th in line for the throne. [I'm in love with the idea that British kids play Queen!] Nigel takes off and the remaining three go to the zoo. After a full day of bonding, Zoey trusts Walden completely, so off to the bedroom the go. [crisis identified and solved all in one episode. who knew!]

Oh, and in an awkward Alan-Jake scene, Jake asks Alan if he'll ever marry Lindsay (nope - neither want more children). While this could be construed as a legitimate question, Jake's intent is to figure out whether he and Eldridge could potentially try to pretend to take one another's place. Apparently Jake is unable to comprehend that you have to be twins, not just brothers to pull that off).

Two and a Half Men: Walden's Got a New Look

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

Well, regular readers know by now that I often complain that nothing ever happens on this show, and we rarely see any secondary characters. This episode managed to have something happen (Walden changed his look and Alan's back with Lindsay), and we saw Lindsay, Eldridge, and Berta. I don't know how I feel about Lindsay being back in the picture, honestly. Eldridge is fairly useless, though if he and Jake manage to do something more than smoke pot, maybe a good storyline or two will come out of it. I'd still like to see more Berta, and I really don't understand how we're not doing much with her anymore. Also, I thought that Alan's online dating profile situation was going to be good, but it only lasted a minute or so... hopefully this will come up again, though I doubt it while Lindsay's back in the picture.

Two and a Half Men "A Possum on Chemo" (S09E14): Walden and Zoe are having issues - she wants him to have a cleaner look, more or less. Meanwhile, Alan is working on putting up an online dating profile, but he struggles to take a good photo. He talks his way into joining the couple on a night out, and immediately annoys both of them in different ways. [this was just so typical that part of the comedy wasn't there... we know that Alan bothers people, often without trying. Who are we trying to kid?] At the restaurant, Alan sees Lindsay so he goes over to talk to her... she's on a date though, with a guy named Dylan who drives a Ferrari! Alan tries to act as if Zoe was his date (and Walden's little sister), but that doesn't work when the two start making out in plain sight. [I know that this was supposed to be funny, but it was just too easy to predict.]

Later the night, Jake and Eldridge are high and watching Beavis & Butthead, and Alan joins them out of boredom. [have we reduced Jake to nothing but a pothead now?] Eldridge tells Alan that Dylan is gay and that Lindsay misses Alan. None of it was true... the boys just wanted to get rid of him. [this, I thought, was funny.] When Alan gets to Lindsay's, he can hear Lindsay and Dylan having sex, so he doesn't bother to go inside.

Walden wants to know why the beard is bothering Zoe all of a sudden, and she admits that she wants a clean-shaven guy by her side for an office party coming up. Walden decides to have Berta cut his hair (apparently she used to be a hairdresser for a prison), but then he decides that he shouldn't change for a woman, and shows up at Zoe's unchanged. Obviously, he soon ends up leaving. Zoe comes over to Walden's, and he appears with short hair and a face like a baby's bottom. He explains that, "turns out, when you weren't nagging me to do it, I wanted to."

Alan gets a call from Lindsay, so he goes over there. She tells him that she and Dylan are over, then complains about how problematic it is to date a young man, and how great it is that Alan has low standards. [ooooh....] [all the fart references got annoying to me.]

Two and a Half Men: Walden Loves Alan

by Amy K. Bredemeyer

This show is getting more and more disappointing. I mean, I know that people are tuning in by the droves, but I'm unsure as to why... we're getting too little of Jake, next to nothing from anyone other than Charlie and Walden (remember when Berta and Evelyn were on this show? and Judith and Herb?), and it's boring. At least, to me. Maybe I'm alone in this thought? In this episode, we basically had two things happen - Walden relied on people to help him out (Zoe and Alan), and Alan went for the greatest gift (his name on the deed over a red porshe). Nothing groundbreaking here, folks.

Two and a Half Men "Slowly and in a Circular Fashion" (S09E13): Bridget calls a stockholders' meeting to try and take over the company, which is evenly distributed between herself, Walden, and his mother. His mother seems to be siding with Bridget, so Walden has Zoe look at the information and he learns that he can name a fourth person to the board, and he'll have the tie-breaking vote. So, he asks Alan to be on the board, which is a win-win, since he's excited to screw mothers and ex-wives, and he'll get $50,000 a year. Walden calls another meeting, and Zoe outlines the corporate bylaws to Bridget and Walden's mom, who decide to leave before voting.

The ladies decide to double-team Alan at a bar, and both order $1,000 shots. Bridget soon takes off, leaving Robin with Alan. Later, Walden questions Alan's loyalty, threatening to put Jake on the board instead. So, when the ladies have dinner with him and want to know whether they can count on him at the next meeting, he talks about his loyalty to Walden. In fact, he m@sturb@ted three times so that he wouldn't give in to sex. [I thought this was pretty funny.] Well, the ladies find his new weakness... and buy him a new red Porshe. Luckily, Walden wins back Alan... by putting his name on the deed to the house! That keeps Alan's vote, which fixes the corporation issue. Walden also decides to renamed the company from "Walden Loves Bridget Enterprises" to "Walden Loves Alan Enterprises." [yeah, I totally thought this was a joke the first time it was said. and I still want it to be one, LoL.]

Alan has an idea for a chiropractic tool, which he pitches to Walden. Sadly, it's not techy enough to warrant funding. As if that wasn't odd enough, here are two more strange things: first, Alan alludes to the fact that, from years of yoga, he can put his own genitalia in his mouth. [haha at the "go f*ck yourself" assumption.] Second, the episode ends with Alan catching his crotch on fire and making a run for the ocean. [seriously.]
